How safe is Hong Kong SAR?

Most areas are safe to walk around at night even in the late hours. Most people, especially ladies don’t have trouble going home late at night. A few areas would have people who could look at you funny, but this is usually at night in dodgy areas or less affluent districts.

A pretty safe city to have fun and enjoy! You can feel absolutely safe when walking on the street at night. The MTR is still running till late night and the transportation system is well developed. People are nice and willing to guide you.

Hong Kong is very safe for solo female traveller, no issues at night. Just maintain common sense and be aware of pickpockets (as per any places around the world). Public transport is also very safe and any type of harassment is very rare.

i would say that hong kong is a very safe city and i always walk home at 1am or 2am without feeling worried. Only thing you should beware of is recently there are some weird men spraying their bottled pee onto young ladies from behind. Stay alert when you’re in busy areas and crossroads in Mong Kok and Tsim Sha Tsui.

It's one of the safest cities to live and travel to, I believe. It is illegal to own any firearms and chances of getting attacked are relatively slim. It is a crowded city therefore people are unlikely to do anything to you without the risk of being seen/heard by someone.

I've walked around downtown Lan Kwai Fong by myself in my early 20s all the time after a night out and was fine. Also taken public transport to go back home and never had a problem. This is all while wearing night out/Clubbing wear

Solo travel experience

Hong Kong is a beautiful place whether you are a nature lover or just looking to explore great museums. Don’t miss out on exploring Lantau island, taking a stroll on Victoria Harbour, dining at great restaurants (Try Ho Lee Fook, Kam Wah cafe and definitely do a street food tour) and top tier bars and so many other things. Felt very safe walking alone at night and even solo hiking The dragon’s back trail and everyone I met was friendly. Another plus is the proximity and good transportation. I visited Macau and Tawai

Solo travel experience

I visited Hong Kong alone during a short visit. I had a wonderful time there and encountered no problems. Hong Kong is a very modern metropolis. English was spoken in my hotel, and when I ventured outside, I noted down my destination to give to the taxi driver. So it was a bit odd, but wonderful. I ordered food, etc. according to pictures. A few signs were in English, but most were not. I explored the old part of the city on my own and felt very safe.
