Safety:Moderate

Zimbabwe, in general, is a relatively safe country with locals who are usually welcoming and peaceful. However, as a solo female traveler, it is crucial to still keep an eye out for unexpected circumstances, particularly in urban areas where petty crimes like pick-pocketing or bag-snatching can occur. Additionally, it is recommended to avoid walking alone at night and to always be aware of your surroundings. It’s advisable to arrange transportation in advance, rather than relying on local taxis at night. Always remember that exercising common sense and caution goes a long way.

Transport:Moderate

Zimbabwe provides a relatively moderate experience in terms of getting around. There are options of public and private transports which include buses, taxis and also car rentals. However, the rural areas might present some difficulty due to poor road conditions and lesser transit options. It's safer to stick to populated areas and tourist spots, and always plan your travel in advance to avoid any inconvenience. Remember that being patient, flexible, and adopting a local's pace can greatly enhance your mobility experience in the country.

Things to do:Interesting

Zimbabwe is an enticing country known for its impressive and diverse landscapes. From walking safaris in Hwange National Park to the awe-inspiring wonder of Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe satisfies an adventurous spirit. Bulawayo, the second-largest city, offers an assortment of both colonial-era and modern architecture. Harare, the capital, is notable for its bustling arts and culture scene, as well as a wide range of eateries for food lovers. However, due to the occasional political instability and economic challenges, it is advised to keep updated on the current circumstance.

Food:Above average

Zimbabwean cuisine offers a pleasant blend of local and international foods, showcasing a good breadth of dishes. Indigenous dishes like Sadza, biltong and maheu demonstrate the traditional culinary practices and are definitely worth a try. Street foods are also common, adding to the diversity factor. On a global scale, the food scene may not be exceptional, but it provides a unique opportunity to delve deeper into the traditional African culture through their food.

Budget:Moderate

Zimbabwe provides a moderate, balanced experience when it comes to a budget-friendly destination. Accommodation and food can be affordable, but the cost of tours and activities like game drives and visiting the Victoria Falls, which are the main attractions of the country, may significantly add to your expenses. Transport might also be a bit costly as public transportation isn't widely used, so renting a car or using taxis is the norm.

Is Zimbabwe worth visiting?

Solo travel experience

I highly recommend a safari in Zambezi National Park. When I was there, we were always the only jeep on site, unlike other parks, which were crowded with tourists and full of jeeps. It was a truly unique, peaceful experience that allowed us to enjoy the animals and the landscape.
