Is Victoria Falls Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Considering safety, Victoria Falls, despite being in Zimbabwe, is relatively safe for solo female travelers. It's a major tourist hotspot, meaning it's commonly patrolled and continually supervised to ensure visitor safety. A certain level of street harassment or petty crimes might occur, as with any other popular tourist destination, but these can generally be avoided with common travel safety practices, such as not showing off expensive belongings and avoiding less crowded areas at night. However, book your trips with reliable tour operators to avoid being caught in any potential scams.

How safe is Victoria Falls?

Safety at night:

Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe carries a relative risk for solo female travelers, particularly at night. It is generally safer to avoid walking alone at night due to instances of petty crime such as pickpocketing and muggings.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Moderate

Public transportation in Victoria Falls is fairly accessible and safe during the day. Generally, tourists will find the local taxis and bus services accommodating. However, it is advised due to cultural and language differences it's best to stay alert, especially during the peak hours and at night. It would be wise to pre-arrange your transport whenever possible and avoid overcrowded vehicles.
Street harassment:

While Zimbabwe in general and Victoria Falls, in particular, is considered generally safe for solo female travelers, it's not entirely uncommon to encounter street vendors who can be quite persistent. However, this is primarily in the form of trying to sell goods and services rather than direct harassment. Notwithstanding, it's always prudent to be vigilant and take standard precautions as one would when travelling solo in any destination around the globe.

Is Victoria Falls worth visiting?

Solo travel

Victoria Falls is a tiny town, easy to stroll around. It only consists of a few short streets and of course a few hotels + a huge campsite with bungalows, which is fine if you're on a tight budget. I 100% recommend swimming in the Devil's Pool, at the top of the waterfall. I did it on the Zambia side, and it took me about 2 hours altogether, including a boat trip to Livingstone Island and a light meal served later on the island.
