Safety:Safe

Zambia is moderately safe for solo female travelers. While locals are generally friendly and helpful, it's crucial to stay vigilant, especially in urban areas due to occasional petty crime. Also, it's suggested to refrain from walking alone at night. Using reliable transport services and staying at well-reviewed accommodations can significantly increase your safety.

Transport:Moderate

Zambia's main cities and tourist areas have good transport links and infrastructure, typically with paved roads and organized public transit systems. Yet, rural areas can be challenging, often have fewer options and are frequently served by dirt roads that can become impassable in rainy season. English is widespread, making it relatively easy for English speakers to navigate. However, consideration must be given to safety measures, especially while using public transportation.

Things to do:Interesting

Zambia is rich with awe-inspiring natural beauty that offers a wide range of activities. The gems of the country lie in its wildlife parks where you can experience thrilling game drives and nature walks for an up-close encounter with diverse fauna. Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, is a breathtaking spectacle that adventure seekers can explore through white-water rafting, canoeing, and bungee jumping. Its diverse landscapes also serve as a grand hiking and bird-watching ground. However, the urban side with limited activities and less developed infrastructure might not appeal to everyone.

Food:Average

Zambian cuisine is quite unique and gives you a taste of their local culture. Meals often include staples like nshima, a maize porridge, alongside relishes made from vegetables, beans, or meat. If you are adventurous with food, you will enjoy the local freshwater fishes and game meat, which are quite common. However, if you prefer international or diverse cuisines, your options might be limited mostly to the cities. Vegetarian or special-diet options may also be challenging to find.

Budget:Moderate

Zambia provides a mid-range budget travel experience for solo female travelers. While not as cheap as some other destinations, your money can stretch quite far with affordable public transportation, low-cost local meals and reasonably priced guesthouses available. However, safari activities and national park fees can push up the costs significantly. Overall, it is a destination manageable with careful planning and a mid-range budget.

Is Zambia worth visiting?

Group travel experience

Zambia is such an amazing country with so much to do! Personally I felt a lot safer being in a group as a woman, and could see myself feeling overwhelmed if on my own, especially in rural areas where public transportation isn’t accessible. Overall, the culture, the joy of the people, and the beautiful natural surroundings make Zambia the top place I want to revisit!
