Is Lusaka Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

As a solo female traveler in Lusaka, it is crucial always to be vigilant. While the city is generally safe during the day, it's better to avoid walking alone at night. Stick to populated and well-lit areas, don't display expensive possessions and use reliable transportation companies. Always inform someone reliable about your whereabouts and stay attentive to your surroundings.

Is Lusaka safe for women?

Lusaka is a fairly safe city. The low cost areas are less safe than the high cost areas. I would recommend living in a high cost area. The crime rates are low overall. Like every other place, crime exists therefore it's good to exercise caution.

It's hard to explain, but I generally feel both safe and unsafe in Lusaka. To some degree it's a matter of knowing where I'm going, obviously some areas are more safe than others. But I'm also aware that as a woman, I'm never ever truly safe anywhere. In my opinion the most common type of harassment is catcalling. Men will always try to walk you to your destination, get your number, comment on your body outfit name it. And the "I want to be your friend"🤮uncles(older men)who drive suspiciously...

About me

I have lived a life closed up and now I am on a journey of self discovery and I want to start by figuring what I like. I would like to do that through travelling. I also want to meet new and possibly form friendships.
