Safety:Very safe

Santander is generally a very safe place for solo female travelers. The crime rate is relatively low, and there is a sense of security even during the night. The locals are friendly and willing to help if needed. As in any location, maintaining awareness of surroundings and being cautious is advised. However, as far as personal security is concerned, Santander is a safe choice.

Transport:Easy

Santander is generally easy to navigate. It's a compact city, so many attractions are within walking distance, and there's also a good network of public transport including buses and trains. Cycling is a popular way to get around too. However, it can be slightly challenging at times due to hilly terrains and language barriers.

Things to do:Interesting

Santander offers a wealth of cultural experiences, stunning views and sandy beaches. Visitors can enjoy the breathtaking Palace of Magdalena, cycle along the scenic Bay of Santander or visit the timeless Cabarceno Nature Park. The city also boasts enriching museums and mouthwatering cuisine. However, the city may lack the hustle and diverse attractions of metro cities.

Food:Above average

Santander offers a delightful blend of traditional Spanish cuisine and innovative gastronomy. The seafood here, particularly, is freshly sourced from the Atlantic Ocean and wonderfully prepared. You can find an array of pintxos bars in the area serving creative small plates. The city also specializes in hearty stews and bean dishes, allowing travelers to experience authentic Cantabrian fare. While plenty of options are there, those with specific dietary requirements may find options a bit limiting. However, the overall richness and freshness of the dining scene can make for a well-rounded culinary journey.

Budget:Moderate

Santander offers a moderate range of prices suitable for most travelers. Affordable options are available in terms of accommodations, particularly if booked in advance, and it is possible to enjoy local food and drinks at reasonably priced restaurants. However, some activities such as visiting museums, high-end shopping, or dining at gourmet restaurants can increase the overall costs of your trip. Therefore, prudent planning and research can help optimize your expenditure.

Is Santander worth visiting?

Solo travel experience

I absolutely fell in love with the city. I decided to visit because I found cheap flights and I wasn't familiar with the city at all. But it was the biggest surprise. The city is surrounded by mountains and by the ocean, you feel like you're in a fairytale. It has the most stunning sunsets and sunrises. You can take a bus and in few minutes you're out of the city center and just walk around the cost of the beautiful Biscay Bay. I absolutely recommend to visit to everyone.

Solo travel experience

Cute city in beautiful surroundings. Great if you like to practice sports and chill. The beaches are really nice, food is good and there are many great treks to discover. However you need a car or vehicle to move around. The nightlife ia not that great and can be a bit roudy.
