Safety:Very safe

Wanaka is generally very safe for solo female travelers. It has a low crime rate and the locals are quite friendly, helpful, and respectful towards visitors. As in any location, it is always advised to remain aware of your surroundings and take basic precautions such as not walking alone late at night in unfamiliar areas.

Transport:Easy

Wanaka is relatively easy to navigate. Though it's a small town, it offers numerous options such as biking, walking, and car rentals for getting around. Public transportation is limited, but most attractions are within walking distance in the town center. For farther sites, hiring a cab or renting a car is advised. Make sure to map out your itinerary to maximize your visits.

Things to do:Interesting

Wanaka offers an impressive array of outdoor activities, making it an adventurer's paradise. It is nestled among mountains and a beautiful lake, providing breathtaking hiking trails and opportunities for water-based activities. You can enjoy climbing, fishing, kayaking, or just relaxing by the lake. In winter, it turns into a ski haven. Limited nightlife and shopping might not appeal to everyone but its landscape and tranquility make up for it.

Food:Above average

Wanaka offers a broad range of cuisine that will cater to any taste buds. From local New Zealand food to international cuisines like Thai, Italian, Mexican and more, you're bound to find something you enjoy. The quality of the food is generally high, with ingredients often sourced locally. There are also a good number of vegan and vegetarian options. The only drawback is that while the cuisine range is wide, the number of restaurants offering each type is limited.

Budget:Moderate

Wanaka presents a moderate budget-friendly destination. The accommodation can be quite affordable if booked in advance, and options for outdoor activities like hiking and biking are mostly free. However, some experiences such as wine tours, boat tours, and adventure activities can be relatively expensive. Dining might be a mix of reasonable and pricy, depending on type and location of restaurants chosen.
