Local people are friendly and ready to provide direction if needed. However, standard cautionary measures should be taken at night. If you are traveling longer distances, taxis are an affordable and commonly used method.

This is from the lens of a bi-racial lighter skin woman that moved grew up in Suva and most recently lived there in 2019. Daytime vs nighttime are very different in the Suva area. During the day I feel completely safe walking and taking public transport by myself. At night, I would not recommend walking alone outside of the busy or central areas and if you are taking a taxi, make note of the drivers plates and don’t take a non-metered ride. If you want to go to a bar or club, try to stay to the main locations such as Traps or O’Reilly’s. If you’re going out to a bar or club leave expensive items at home, I have had my phone stolen multiple times. Overall, I do feel safe by myself but I do worry about being robbed at night, but outside of the average woman’s fear of sexual violence - I do not worry about that as much vs materialistic things being stolen.
