The locals are typically friendly and welcoming, violence is fairly low, and the majority of the areas that tourists frequent are well-regulated. However, like with all destinations, it's recommended to remain vigilant, especially during night time or when visiting isolated areas. Making sure not to accept unsolicited offers and always using official taxi services is advisable.

Navigating Fiji can be of moderate difficulty. While the main tourist areas and larger islands like Viti Levu have sufficient transport services such as taxis, local buses, and ferries, the smaller islands can be much more challenging to get around, with less frequent transport and infrastructural services. It's advisable to plan your itinerary and transportation ahead to avoid any inconvenience. Always remember to stay safe and be mindful of local customs and etiquette.

Fijian culture is also rich and welcoming; from traditional cooking to tribal artwork, there's much to learn and experience. Hiking up the picturesque terrains or exploring local villages are also great activities to undertake. A few negative points include some areas being quite touristic and occasional travel restrictions due to weather.

Fiji offers a wonderful blend of native Fijian, Indian, Chinese, and European cuisines. The islands are known for their fresh seafood, tropical fruits, and indigenous vegetables. Traditional dishes like Kokoda and Lovo are must-try. However, the variety is not extensive beyond these local cuisines. Vegetarian options are available but not as diverse. Despite the limited variety, the taste and authenticity remain superb.

While accommodation, dining, and daily activities could be cost-effective, especially in less tourist-heavy areas, inter-island transportation and certain high-end experiences can escalate costs. Family travel experience

An amazing place to go alone, as a couple or with family. Delicious food, incredible sunsets, lots of activities or enjoy swim up pool bars, palm trees and relaxing in a hammock. I’m lucky to have been many times. It’s affordable with friendly locals and wonderful tropical island culture. Only 3hrs from NZ and no time change… perfect for children. Can stay in fun, family hotels with everything, or have a romantic, quiet getaway with a loved one. Very safe for travelling alone, everyone is warm and welcoming!

Solo travel experience

Although cliche I don’t recommend walking alone at night as I did encounter some strange people. Majority of the locals are amazing and always glad to help and super sweet. I do recommend visiting local villages, when doing so ensure your knees aren’t showing nor your shoulders. Although they will always have clothes to borrow if needed. Seeing an authentic village helps put into perspective the true beauty of Fiji.

Family travel experience

Hey so my family is originally from Fiji so I go back quite a lot! I can safely say that I absolutely love Fiji and because the dollar is so good, everything in Fiji becomes a ton cheaper I think there’s a great mix of things to do both for someone who wants to relax and someone who wants thrills The only thing I’ll mention is at night, outside of the main resort island (Denarau) it can be a bit dangerous if you’re not careful

Solo travel experience

I stayed in Fiji for a month and apart from the tourist areas, it was very cheap there. I spent most of my stay in Sigatoka. Public transportation was safe and incredibly cheap. I felt much safer in smaller towns than in big cities.
