Safety:Very safe

Helsingør is universally acclaimed for its high level of safety. From its well-organized public transport system to the typically hospitable local populace, the city exudes an atmosphere of security and serenity. Walking around the city is safe even during late hours, and incidents of crime, particularly against solo female travelers, are notably low. Crime rates in Denmark are generally low and the law enforcement is efficient.

Transport:Easy

Navigating through Helsingør is a fairly smooth experience. The city is compact with many of its key attractions within walking distance from each other. There is also a range of easily accessible public transportation options. However, understanding the language may present a slight challenge to some.

Things to do:Moderate

Helsingør offers several unique attractions. It's home to the infamous Kronborg Castle, immortalized as Elsinore in Shakespeare's Hamlet. You can also explore the M/S Maritime Museum of Denmark and its impressive collection of nautical history. For calm moments, the beautiful St. Olai's Church is also worth a visit. However, outside of these main places, the number of activities is somewhat limited and the town is usually enjoyed as part of a larger Denmark tour or trip to Copenhagen, rather than a standalone destination.

Food:Above average

Helsingør offers a varied culinary scene that appeals to varied tastes. The city is known for its traditional Danish cuisine which is a delight for seafood lovers. There's no shortage of bakeries, cafes, and restaurants where you can sample local pastries and dishes. Additionally, the city embraces a range of international cuisines, from Italian to Asian, ensuring something for everyone. However, vegetarians and vegans may need to search a bit harder for options tailored to their preferences.

Budget:Moderate

Helsingør lands in the middle of the range in terms of budget-friendliness. While it is more affordable than some other European destinations, the cost of dining, accommodation and attractions like the famous Kronborg Castle can add up. But with proper planning, usage of public transportation and opting for budget stays and meals, one can manage a cost-effective trip.

About Me

Hi, my name is Johanna. I am a student at a Norwegian Folkehøyskole (boarding school that focuses on hobbies) learning about arctic tourism and enjoying nature and life. I'm soon done with this school year and really want to travel in the summer. Next year, however, I'm going back to the school to work as an assisting teacher. I love traveling to explore new places and cultures and I love meeting new people that can inspire me and help me grow as a person. I do not have a lot of experience with couch surfing but through different exchange programs, I have been a guest at many different host families houses. I’ve e.g. done an exchange year in Canada, Québec learning about the culture, language and the people. Also I did an exchange for 3 weeks in England, Isle of Wight and one week in France, Metz, which I enjoyed very much. In my spare time, I love being active in nature like hiking, skiing and running. I also love being creative and doing activities like knitting, sewing and painting. Most importantly I spend a lot of time with friends and family either at home or at a nice bar or restaurant - because I looove good food and nice drinks!
