Is Cyprus Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Cyprus is considered generally safe for solo female travelers and it often relies on tourists, which has enhanced its security measures. However, like any other destination, precautions are necessary. Petty thefts or pickpocketing can sometimes occur in crowded places. The majority of locals speak English and are usually helpful. Always stay cautious, especially during the night hours, and avoid isolated places.

How safe is Cyprus?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Safe

Cyprus is known for its relatively high safety standards, especially for women traveling alone. Crime rates are lower than in most European countries and locals are generally friendly and helpful. Nonetheless, like any other place, it is advisable to use common sense and stay vigilant, particularly during late hours. It's usually safe to walk alone at night in populated, well-lit areas. However, quieter, less populated areas should be avoided during late hours due to lack of visibility and people around.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Public transport in Cyprus is generally considered safe even for solo female travelers. Buses run frequently, are well-maintained, and the bus staff is usually helpful and professional. However, do not completely let down your guard, remain alert for any suspicious behavior. Buses might not cover all regions extensively, hence other options like taxis or rentals may be necessary for more remote areas. Night buses are not very common and taxis, although safe, could become expensive.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

As a solo female traveler in Cyprus, you can largely expect an environment marked by respect and safety. Instances of street harassment are sporadic and primarily limited to tourist hotspots, especially during peak season. However, bear in mind that these incidents are more the exception than the rule. Always maintain an awareness of your surroundings, but rest assured, Cyprus is generally a safe destination for solo female travelers.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Cyprus generally has a low level of petty crime. Instances like pickpocketing or bag snatching are not very prevalent, particularly in tourist areas and the island's numerous resorts. However, like in any destination, personal vigilance is still advised. Always keep an eye on your belongings especially in crowded places and use safe deposit boxes for your valuables in your accommodation. Also, lock your rooms and rental cars when you are not around.

Larnaca, Solo travel

I felt very safe in Larnaca , people are very helpful and generous .Wven thought i thought it will be more expensive , prices in some of restaurants were quite „normal” equal to quality of the food which in Cyprus is just amazing

Cyprus, Family travel

Cyprus is great for relaxing vacation because of the sea, beaches, warm climate and food. I was accompanied so felt safe, not sure if it’s the same for solo travellers. Restaurants and cafes price range are average for southern Europe, anyway usually everything is delicious, especially seafood. Big downside is public transport as there are none, so rent a car right on airport parking.

Limassol, Group travel

My trip in Limassol was great, I felt safe though even during the non-touristic season the city was quite busy. I was traveling with a group and stayed in a hotel. We mostly ate outside and the restaurants were quite expensive compared to Larnaca. We had our favorite coffee shop-Wagmi, where you can have quality coffee and work, and they have a super cute garden also.

I honestly have mixed feelings about Cyprus. I went there to see my friend who was in Nicosia on Erasmus. It's good that during my stay in Nicosia I decided to go on short trips to Limmasol and Ayia Napa. If I hadn't done that, I would have been disappointed with the whole trip. I'll explain. Nicosia is nice, but for a person like me it's too boring. 2 days and I was already bored with the city. The other two cities were beautiful visually and I really liked it there. However, the whole of Cyprus gives off the atmosphere of a holiday resort. The only thing in these cities is the beach and hotels. As for safety - during the day I kept my phone very close to me (but I guess it's a habit so that I don't get robbed outside my country hahah). At night, however, in two clubs I had very unpleasant situations. The men were very pushy. One followed me all night and the other pushed himself into an empty bathroom after me. I felt unsafe.

Cyprus was a banger! We had amazing time, we stayed in two places so we see most of the incredible places from the east cost. Cyprus nature really worth it. Most of the time we felt pretty save, food was good (however we ate sandwiches most of the time). If you are thinking about visiting Cyprus, go for it!

Cyprus, Solo travel

I had a very nice time in Cyprus. I was there with my friends, and I loved it; all of us loved it. It was way too hot outside, and during the hottest hours, it was impossible to go outside. Except for that, it was amazing.

Mostly great but to much unwanted attention from Men. Out in the club areas wouldn’t go off in my own nor would I want to get drunk and get separated from my friends. Would recommend a boat trip to the blue lagoon. Don’t forget your passport if you plan to see anything in the northern part of Cyprus, it very much is split between the Greeks and Turkish. Sizzler’s Steak and Flamble House was the best food night we had. We stayed in a lovely villa in Paralimni, and spent about £360 for flights and the villa.

Protaras, Solo travel

I really enjoy my holidays in Protaras. In April there is not so many tourist yet. Weather is warm but not hot. People are kind and you can walk around next to ocean. Taxi is expensive but buss day-ticket is cheap. You will love this if you want spend easy days in sunny place. There is not so much to do, so week is maybe max time to spend here.

Paphos, Family travel

Great places. Avoid nightlife, I was spiked. Great local food places, late night shops and nice bars. Supermarkets were great. Local artists selling items, not pushy. Safe feeling when walking. Good trip.

Larnaca, Solo travel

Cyprus has my whole heart. I feel like it’s my second home. Not only do i feel incredibly safe and welcome there (more than my own country), it’s just so beautiful. The food, the weather, the cats, the beach, everything. This was my second solo trip to larnaca this year (my first ever solo trip anywhere outside of the UK and Hungary was in February this year, to Larnaca, and i went again a month later). Both times were only for one day, so I’d arrive saturday morning, and come back sunday afternoon. It is absolutely worth it even for a one day werkend getaway. First time i stayed in Finikoudes, this time i stayed in Mackenzie. I definitely prefer Finikoudes, there’s more shops and more to do, but i also liked Mackenzie because of the planes (AvGeek). I ate a halloumi burger in a restaurant on the beach and that was the best halloumi burger of my life. I used buses and Bolt taxis to get around, my Bolt taxi driver was always the same guy and he was very sweet and kind. Overall really good experience.

Cyprus

It was a nice experience, the island is pretty but there isn't much to do, however the streets are dirty and quite dangerous, there's a bit of everything lying around on the ground (pieces of glass...) and people don't seem very friendly. At night you feel a lot of looks, I was always accompanied so I wasn't scared but I think it would have been different being alone.

Pafos

Crystal-clear waters, golden beaches, and ancient ruins create a magical atmosphere. The charming old town, breathtaking sunsets, and warm Mediterranean vibe make it a perfect destination for relaxation and exploration. Paphos is very nice place i can give info if someone needs and also rides with my car if someone wants to drive with me
