Safety at night:Safe

Larnaca is generally a safe place, even at night. However, as with any city, it is advisable to remain alert and avoid lonely, deserted areas. Stick to well-lit, populated places and be aware of your surroundings. Public transportation is reliable and taxis are readily available. While serious crime rates are low, use common precautions against petty crimes like pickpocketing.

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Larnaca is generally reliable and safe. Buses are the most common mode of transport that locals and tourists use, and they connect all major tourist attractions and towns. Most bus drivers and staff communicate in English which is helpful for foreign travelers. Taxis are easily accessible and metered, limiting the chances of being overcharged. However, it's always good to be cautious, especially during the night or when traveling in less frequented routes.

Street harassment:Low

Larnaca generally tends to be pretty safe for solo female travelers. Street harassment, including catcalling or unsolicited comments, is not a rampant issue. It's quite a welcoming environment and strangers often show respect and maintain space, making it feel quite secure for women traveling alone. Nonetheless, like anywhere, situations can vary and it is always advised to stay alert, especially during the night or in less crowded areas.

Petty crimes:Low

Petty crimes such as pickpocketing or purse-snatching are relatively rare in Larnaca. The city is generally safe and locals are usually friendly and helpful. However, it is still recommended to exercise standard precautions like not leaving belongings unattended and being aware of one's surroundings, especially in crowded places.

Tap water:Safe

The tap water in Larnaca, is generally considered safe for drinking by local standards. It is treated and it follows the European Union's stringent regulations for potable water. However, the taste may not be favored by some due to the desalination process and mineral content. Hence, while it is safe to consume, some locals and tourists prefer to drink bottled water.

Solo travel experience

Cyprus has my whole heart. I feel like it’s my second home. Not only do i feel incredibly safe and welcome there (more than my own country), it’s just so beautiful. The food, the weather, the cats, the beach, everything. This was my second solo trip to larnaca this year (my first ever solo trip anywhere outside of the UK and Hungary was in February this year, to Larnaca, and i went again a month later). Both times were only for one day, so I’d arrive saturday morning, and come back sunday afternoon. It is absolutely worth it even for a one day werkend getaway. First time i stayed in Finikoudes, this time i stayed in Mackenzie. I definitely prefer Finikoudes, there’s more shops and more to do, but i also liked Mackenzie because of the planes (AvGeek). I ate a halloumi burger in a restaurant on the beach and that was the best halloumi burger of my life. I used buses and Bolt taxis to get around, my Bolt taxi driver was always the same guy and he was very sweet and kind. Overall really good experience.
