It's not the safest place for tourism but it's relatively safe if you choose to settle with a local family. Colorism is quite prevalent here so if you're a fair skinned women, expect a lot of unwanted staring and looks from men. I would not recommend traveling here alone. The police are also quite unreliable so your best bet when you need help here would be friends who are locals or other acquaintances.

Hey if you are in Chittagong, I recommend you go around with a local friend. Or else you might feel lost not understanding many things like the culture or language. You may find people staring at you and that because they are very curious and don't see foreigners very often. Be cautious if you are walking in the streets alone. Dressing up modestly by covering your body & chest with a scarf is highly recommended. Wear full sleeves and full pants. There are local foods in Bir chottola in Jamal Khan area, Mezban haile aiyyun in lalkhan bajar, and more modern food I'm restaurants in 2 number gate and khulshi areas. Talk to a local for more advise.
