Safety:Safe

Patagonia is generally considered safe for solo female travelers. The locals are friendly, and crimes against tourists are relatively low. However, like any other travel destination, it's always important to use common sense and stay vigilant, especially when traveling alone. It's important to stay in well-populated areas, especially at night, and be wary of pickpockets. Overall, Patagonia offers a welcoming environment where most travelers feel secure.

Transport:Moderate

Navigating through Patagonia can be a bit challenging. It's an expansive area with isolated routes and vast distances between towns or cities. This might require some planning in advance. However, it is eminently feasible with the availability of public transportation, including buses, ferries, and planes. There is also the option of renting a car. Despite the vastness of the area, travel can be worthwhile with its breathtaking landscapes and wildlife. Always ensure safety and comfort by planning ahead.

Things to do:Fascinating

Patagonia offers a captivating mix of stunning natural landscapes, from mountains to glaciers, and an enticing variety of outdoor activities for adventure lovers. You can engage in thrilling pursuits such as hiking, wildlife viewing, and glacier trekking, or explore the region's local culture and history. It's a must-visit for anyone seeking both adventure and relaxation amid awe-inspiring settings.

Food:Above average

The food scene in Patagonia is quite impressive and diverse. It is heavily influenced by the indigenous people, the Mapuche, as well as the Italian and Spanish immigrants. Expect a lot of lamb dishes as it is very common in this region, along with trout and king crab. They usually accompany their meals with wines from the Mendoza region. However, vegetarian options may be a bit limited. Given this, anyone who loves trying new food will have a wonderful gastronomic experience.

Budget:Expensive

Traveling in Patagonia can be somewhat challenging for budget travelers. Although it's possible to find some affordable hostels and camping options, the cost of tours, domestic flights, and food can quickly add up. Moreover, the remote location and vastness of the area mean that getting from one place to another may require expensive transportation. Thus, it's advised to plan thoroughly and save ahead if Patagonia is on your travel bucket list.

Patagonia is an amazing place. So much places to visit, to ride, walk and hike that there’s no time for boredom. I felt safe all the time and local people is always willing to help, to give directions and recommend cool places to visit.

Solo travel experience

I had a great time in Bariloche. The mountains and lakes help you connect with nature, getting some fresh air is necessary. I went hiking for several days, visited Laguna negra, Cerro Lopez, lago Mascardi, and many more. I also had the best bear and made friendly local who took le everywhere. The best part was starying the night up on a mountain, I’ll never forget the stars. I felt very safe, I highly recommend it.

Solo travel experience

I traveled alone to Patagonia in December 2019/ January 2020. I hiked independently and I highly recommend it. There are so many other backpackers there, you're never alone. In Chile, I used Puerto Natales as my base because everything in the park was already booked. I took the first morning bus to Torres del Paine and hiked to the base, which is an iconic view. Then I took a bus to Argentina, to El Chalten (transferring in El Calafate). I hiked from the town to the base of Mount Fitzroy. The trail starts right there. Afterwards, I returned to El Calafate and completed Big Ice at the Perito Moreno Glacier. I also took a one-day horseback riding trip at a ranch. I loved everything I did and would enthusiastically recommend it. It's beautiful and everything is easy and safe.

Solo travel experience

I traveled alone in Patagonia for 4 months and it was very easy as a solo female traveler. I always felt safe, in every hostel I stayed in there was a group of other solo female travelers. I always ended up on trips with a group from the hostel.
