Is Mogadishu Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Mogadishu, presents considerable risks for solo female travelers. Considerable threats of terrorism, civil unrest, and armed conflict persist in this region. Women, particularly those traveling alone, also may be at increased risk for gender-based violence. Those with a pressing need to travel to or within Somalia should do so with caution and preferably maintain close contact with a reputable local organization or embassy. It is also recommended to have a specific local contact who has good knowledge of the dynamics and a reliable and effective security plan.
