Sal is a beautiful island, but it can also be a bit touristy. Santa Maria is a very small town and it has a lot of tourist infrastructure. Just use common sense and avoid walking through narrow, quiet streets away from the city centre late in the evening.

Had a brilliant experience in Sal. The local people were warm and welcoming and really made the trip. Though it was a small island and is still developing, there is plenty to do for a week and the beaches are truly beautiful. Very safe and very clean
