Is Sarajevo safe for solo female travelers?

Sarajevo, the capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is generally a safe destination for solo female travelers. The locals are known for their warmth and hospitality towards tourists. Street crime levels are relatively low. However, like any city, it is advised to stay alert, especially at night, and avoid isolated areas. It's common to see women out late in the city centers. Avoid political gatherings or protests, which can occasionally occur. Besides the city, public transportation is reliable and safe, but one should be cautious of sporadic traffic. Local customs and cultural norms are respected, and it's important to dress modestly, especially when visiting religious sites.

Family travel

I stayed in Sarajevo for 3 days and always felt safe, even at night. The people are welcoming and the city has a calm and relaxed atmosphere. I stayed in an apartment in the center, a perfect location to get around on foot: almost everything is within walking distance. I recommend visiting Baščaršija (the old town), the Tunnel of Hope, the cable car that goes up Mount Trebević (amazing views), and simply getting lost among the streets full of history. The War Museum disappointed me a bit because of how it is maintained, so I would skip it. For food, I absolutely recommend Ćevabdžinica Željo and trying local desserts like baklava. In general, it's a low-cost trip, perfect if you want to see a different city, full of culture and with a touching past. The itinerary was flexible, so no rushing, just relaxed exploration.

Family travel

I felt safe in Sarajevo but I don’t know if that’s because i was with my family or not but I think it’s a calm city. I didn’t feel particularly alarmed. Just be aware of your surroundings but I wouldn’t say that it’s dangerous to solo travel here.

Food was good, people were nice. TIP If u want to buy something in a local street store better ask someone local if he / she can buy it for you. Because when they hear turist price is double😆 .......

sarajevo as the capital town doesnt have crime, at all in the main parts of the town. just be safe when crossing roads and stay away from interacting with drunk strangers because car crashes and danger might be often. but there is violence which is random. all u have to do is watch out at night. trains are open till 12pm.

About me

Hello everyone! 😊 My name is Adna, I’m 18 years old and I live in Sarajevo. I’m currently in my final year of high school, studying to become a fashion designer something I’m really passionate about! I love traveling, especially with my best friend we always enjoy discovering new places, meeting new people, and trying local food. Unfortunately, I can’t host anyone at the moment because I live with my family, but I’d be more than happy to recommend great spots to visit in Sarajevo or help with travel tips! I’m also a big cat lover and right now we’re looking for someone who could host us in Ljubljana for a few days. If anyone’s up for a fun and friendly visit, feel free to message me! 💕
