How safe is Belarus?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Moderate

Belarus is generally peaceful with a low crime rate, even during night hours. However, it's still advisable for solo female travelers to exercise caution when walking alone, particularly in less crowded places. Basic safety measures like avoiding dimly lit areas and not displaying wealth are also recommended. Information about service areas, timers for street lights, and transportation schedules should be checked in advance to avoid any late-night travel hassles.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Belarus is generally reliable and safe. The buses, metro, and trams are regularly maintained and the routes cover most of the significant areas in the cities. However, during peak hours they can get crowded so it's important to remain cautious of your belongings. English may not be widely spoken so knowing some basic Russian can be helpful. Always validate your tickets to avoid fines.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Belarus is generally a safe country for solo female travelers. Instances of street harassment are not particularly common, and many women find they can move around comfortably without being bothered. Nevertheless, being vigilant and taking general precautions, like avoiding deserted areas late at night or putting yourself in uncomfortable situations, is always advisable.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Belarus is known for maintaining a relatively low level of petty crime. However, like any other country, instances of pickpocketing or bag snatching do occur, particularly in crowded places such as public transportation, tourist hotspots, or large gatherings. Always be vigilant with your possessions and ensure you take common-sense precautions to avoid becoming a victim.

Belarus, Solo travel

In Belarus I have been to 2 cities: Minsk and Brest. In each of them I felt absolutely safe both during the day and late at night. Belarus has an amazing property - everyone who gets there gets drunk 90% of the time, and I was no exception. You should definitely try Belarusian liqueurs and draniki (potato pancakes), and if you want to spend time in a quiet and not very expensive restaurant, I recommend Le Gosse. In general, I stayed in Belarus for 2 weeks. I came from Russia by train, lived in a rented apartment in Minsk, then with friends in Brest, and left again by train to Russia. All expenses cost me 440€ (including travel and accommodation). I did not deny myself anything, traveled by taxi 70% of the time and bought coffee in coffee shops. I think it is very cheap! And if you have a Russian card I recommend booking accommodation through Yandex Travel. This is one of the most profitable options.

Minsk, Family travel

Minsk seems very safe to me, and for women solo travels as well! good food, nice people, language barrier could be a little of a problem, but younger generation know some English, I'm recommending you to visit Асмалоўка area, I personally think it's the most touching place of the city

Minsk, Couple travel

Minsk is a great city! It’s clean, beautiful, and safe. The food is delicious, the people are friendly, and the climate is mild. Nyamiha and the Minsk Hero City Obelisk are must-visit spots. We ate at local cafés and bought food from supermarkets — it was cheap and tasty. We stayed at Urban Hostel — highly recommended!

Minsk

I would say it’s a city where I always feel safe, even in the evening/at night. Crime level is low and the police is always somewhere around ready to help especially in the central districts. Using taxi from the apps like yandex or A1 is safe.
