About me

Hi! I am Emma. 20 is the age when people tell you that you have your whole life ahead of you. It’s the time to enjoy, to savor youth, to go out, laugh, and love. The world is opening up to us—it’s time to dive in. Until everything suddenly stops. Losses and challenges hit hard, reminding us of our own finiteness. Life is short. And that phrase only truly resonates when you’ve experienced it yourself. These journeys are a quest—both for myself and for others. A desire to connect, to bond with otherness in all its forms. I love life, and I love creating. Dance, music, photography, video, and drawing are my ways of telling stories, of trying to grasp what still escapes me. I am 20 years old, and I don’t know if I’ll still be here tomorrow. So, I try to learn to savor every burst of life that moves me. I am open to everything, motivated to learn while giving my all, and to be fully mindful of every action I take. I want to fulfill this overflowing curiosity, to explore, and to exchange.

Is La Réunion safe for women?

Overall, Réunion remains an island known for its great cultural diversity. Everyone coexists and accepts each other as they are. It’s not uncommon to come across Tamil processions, hear the Islamic call to prayer, or hear church bells ringing. Here, all religions and skin colors are accepted. Unfortunately, in recent years, the situation has started to deteriorate, with an increase in crime and growing incivility. Some forms of racism exist (toward Comorians, Mahorais, and Zoreils—French expatriates in Réunion), but they remain minimal compared to other countries. Stores close relatively early (6–7 PM), and the sun sets early as well (7 PM in summer, 6 PM in winter), which empties the cities of their activity. As a result, there aren’t many people out in the evening (except in Saint-Pierre). However, I’ve never felt physically threatened. You might notice lingering stares, but no more than in mainland France. During the day, I’ve rarely encountered any issues. People are welcoming, and there’s a warmth that feels good and brings a sense of peace. Réunion is a pleasant place to live, and overall, it’s a safe destination—though, of course, precautions should always be taken (as no place is completely risk-free). That said, it’s worth noting that the situation has slightly worsened, with more incidents of incivility than before.
