Is Tunis safe for solo female travelers?

Tunis, has a moderate safety level. Crime rates are relatively low and the locals are generally hospitable towards tourists. However, as in many parts of the world, a solo female traveler should exercise common sense and maintain awareness of her surroundings. While public transportation is safe to use, it may sometimes be crowded. Always adhere to local customs and make sure to dress modestly to respect the local culture. Despite the country's mostly peaceful situation, occasional political events could alter the safety landscape, so it's crucial to stay informed about current events.

Tunis is overall safe if you dress with the cultural context in mind, as a born and raised Tunisian I have never experienced anything in this city that has made me seriously consider it has a safety issue. As they tell you in other capitals in the public transport: don’t use your phone, be mindful of your belongings!

If you don’t know Tunisia, let me tell you: it’s one of the safest countries in the region for women. Here, we have strong laws that protect us against violence, and there are centers where women can go if they need help or support. In the streets, schools, and workplaces, you will always see many women active and present, which makes daily life feel more open and secure. Of course, no place is without challenges, but Tunisia really tries to create an environment where women can feel safe, respected and free

It’s pretty much safe. The police are basically everywhere and they’re so friendly and open to answer questions also the people are so friendly and helpful and they’re very knowledgeable about the foreigners countries and you can easily talk with them about everything and they will absolutely understand.

It's moderatly safe. Be respectful to the country and understand the culture before going. Research dangerous neighbourhoods (very well known) and stay away and do not go alone in the dark or in abandoned places and you are good to go.

I have lived here my entire life and i really think it's quite unsafe. But the fact that i had a bad experience, doesn't mean other people are lying. So just be careful and smart. Plus, we have a code here don't trust young boys but you can trust old men and women.

Hi! My name is Leila, I am 23 years old. I spent the last year teaching English in Jerusalem, Palestine. I am originally Tunisian-Egyptian and have lived most of the my life in the U.S.! I love solo traveling and meeting new people. I currently live in a farm raising chicken, sheep, and harvesting watermelons (very random I know!).
