How safe is Malta?

Gozo

Honestly, it is quite a safe area, I've rarely felt increasingly worried about my safety. Now that is not to say that it is absolutely perfect because I have been catcalled very often, but it is not to the point where I am scared of being followed as they tend to stop once ignored.

Malta

Malta is safe like most EU countries. Avoid St Julians area alone early in the mornings - Valletta, Rabat, Mdina, Zurrieq, San Gwann, Birgu, Mellieha. Enjoy, it’s absolutely gorgeous! Shops and restaurants may be found literally in each city. Try the hypogeums and hiking trails - there’s a lot around and feel free to DM for more!

It’s very nice and safe. I never had men shouting things at me late at night. There is good lighting overal. I don’t get talked to a lot in the street in overal. The locals seem very respectful and friendly.

I have been living here all my life. I can’t say that it’s as safe as I was when I was a kid, but it’s still considered very safe compared to other places. But like everywhere else, more cars and more people so obviously we still need to be careful etc but overall, very safe.

Mosta

I have been living in Mosta for two years. Locals are kind and warm, ready to provide information. I never felt unsafe whether the streets were crowded or empty, during the day or at night. Lots of CCTV, local police is present for bigger events like the village feast. People sometimes drive a bit fast on the larger roads in the outskirts of the city which can be poorly lit at night.

Malta

I feel very safe walking after dark, everybody is polite, I have never experienced catcalling or any other harrasment so far. If I am overreacting, you can even leave your bag unattented at one place, leave come back later and it will still be there😆

Malta

4 years ago I would have said that it was one of the safest country i have been But these two last years have , unfortunatly, shown really sad event (rapped, murder), so i feel a bit less safe. But still much more than Belgium or France

it is a safe city by day and even by night at times, but there have been instances of femicide. in the last four years there have been i think 5, and not in the way that these women were out and doing anything drastic, but inmocent people. parks at night and less crowded places are a no after 8pm or even just dark.

Malta

Overall Malta it's a small and safe island located in the Mediterranean but as any other countries there's a little chance of crimes or what ever... since 2016 I've been living here and did not occur any problems :)

Malta

In general, Malta is a very safe country. I always walk alone, even at night. I've been approached by men, but nothing too serious, but as it's a country that welcomes people from all over the world and very close to other continents, there can be discomfort caused by men and I've heard reports of harassment. What's more, you don't hear about pickpockets or muggings here.

Malta, Family travel

Hi friends, We came to Malta with my mom and three kids. This is my second time here, the first time was when I was a teenager and I love it back then. Traveling with little kids here was a horrible idea lol, kids wanted to swim, but the weather was so unpredictable. One min it's 20degree the next was sooo cold and rainy. It's a beautiful island but if you plan coming here with kids do it in the summer, even then I think it's not ideal. The beaches are rocky and are just few with sand. We are staying for one more week, but I wish we did go home already

Malta, Group travel

Malta was very safe , i never had the thought of being robed or that something might happen to me . I was travelling with my best friend and we visited pretty much every thing. We suggest going to medina , valletta saint giljan , have a chance to visit pompey village you will definitely have a great time there . Also you can find amazing food all around malta . For enjoying a glass of wine with a beautiful view of the sea at night i suggest valletta. Also if you are a freak of nightlife st julian "paceville" is a place to get crazy to. Hope you enjoy it there as much as we did.

About Me

I'm currently in university studying English and History undergrad- I really love them and am always eager to rattle on about anything history and literature related! I never turn down an opportunity to learn about them too, as well as culture, art or things you're passionate about. I enjoy getting to know people and different life experiences. I also just had a gap year where I travelled around Europe and did WWOOFing, which has made me fall in love with travelling and lean into things with more curiosity and a desire to learn, whatever it may be about. Nature has always been something dear to me, as well as advocating for minority groups in whatever way that I can. On another note, one of my favourite things to do is taking care of other people and especially baking for them or with them! I'm always looking for the chance to do so hehe
