Generally safe. The key is to practice common sense and basic safety precautions as you would anywhere else in the world. Knowing English and learning a few basic phrases of the local Malay language will be helpful too.
Posted: April 27, 2024Relatively safe as a female solo traveler. Locals are friendly and willing to help. It is not preferred to be walking alone at night, like in all major cities. No need to worry about assault or harrassment in public transport.
Posted: April 21, 2024No matter where you are, I think it’s common to avoid dark alleys. But so far Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur is safe for female solo travelers. There is a drinking area (Nightlife) in Chinatown and the KLCC area and you can get a Grab (Uber in South East Asia) easily.
Posted: March 23, 2024Overall, a city that solo women travellers need to take precautions when traveling. Public transportation is generally safe and avoid walking alone after 10pm. People are mostly nice but there can be some strange character that can try to follow you around if you’re a foreigner.

Overall a great experience and would recommend visiting if you can. Felt safe as a woman alone in KL, even at night in less crowded areas. Lots of great food options from Malay, Chinese, Indian cuisine and more. Almost every place has Halal options if that matters to you. Accommodation, food and especially travel were relatively affordable. Lots of shopping malls and other market areas to explore.
Posted: February 14, 2024I was in Kuala Lumpur for 5 days and I never felt unsafe. People were friendly and helpful. I used Grab to get around the city, and all the drivers were nice. Nobody bothered me when I was going somewhere alone. Nevertheless, I didn't wander into side streets and similar places.

Hello ladies, Remain vigilant in KL as I got pick pocketed coming down the staircase of the monorail. Be warned that immigration at the airport upon arrival can take very long too. I was waiting to get through for 1.5 hours.
