Kuala Lumpur is fairly safe if you know the places to go and have good company. As a solo traveller, girls please do check with a local about how safe some areas are. This city has its ups and downs. Public transportation is safe, grab (e-hailing service) are okay too. After 12 am, try to be more careful and stick with your friends if you’re going to a new place. The nightlife here is pretty good. Unless you’re renting a car, then none of this would be an issue. Please remember to have fun! Oh reminder! Malaysia is not LGBTQIA+ friendly AT ALL, so watch out for that in the public.

The city centre is fairly safe and public transportation is easy to use with police officers on duty, however some areas might be dodgy especially after midnight. Snatch theft or pickpocketing might occur near night markets so best to stay vigilant when walking on the streets.

It's safe as long as you take care of your own belongings and don't show off too much. We would not want to attract unnecessary attention. Avoid walking alone in dark alleys at night. There are ladies only designated parking lots in certain malls, or ladies only coach in public transports so make use of them if you are travelling alone
Posted: June 19, 2025Kuala Lumpur is safe overall. But like most cities, caution is required. Don't walk down empty streets at night. Don't openly flex cash or expensive jewelry on the streets. Don't dress overly provocatively and not expect stares.

Being in the city area definitely makes it safer - just be aware of your surroundings and keep your personal belongings safe and you should be alright! Use e-hailing or the MRT for transportation and you should get by pretty well!

I was lucky enough to be hosted by my Chinese friend in Puchong. We would get around by car. I wouldn't recommend walking because there are not many places to walk to. As a European it was quite a shocking thing. I love walking. If you want to have fun, there are organised activities to visit the jungle, or you could just chill at the numerous shopping malls around the city. Malaysian Ringgits are weak, so 40 euros were 200 MYR. Food is great. Please try Durian, it's a smelly fruit, either you love it or hate it 😄
