I feel so much safer here than I did in America or Europe. I get home late at night and don't feel uncomfortable. There are taxis available around the station, but I'll just walk home if the weather is good. I've gone out for a Ladies Night more than once and we've all had a blast. No one bothers us.

people often joke that hachioji specifically is deemed as the part of tokyo that is set back a few decades because of its long history with yakuza(a crime syndicate), but the have almost completely died down and hachioji is pretty much just as safe as other areas in tokyo
