Jamaica

I’d advice ladies to get a local guide for local travel to teach you the ropes esp if it’s your first time visiting Locals are very welcoming to tourist however they might overprice things if you don’t know how to talk to them

Kingston

Jamaica in general can be a violent place. Kingston is a city and this has a high concentration of people which increases the likelihood of violence and crime. I’ve had my (old) apartment broken into once, however it was poorly secured (no burglar bars). I’ve never been mugged although once, I’ve been pickpocketed, and had a necklace snatched many years ago. I’ve been groped before but when I was much younger. I don’t particularly have fear when I take public transportation but caution should be exercised. Taking private transport (uber etc) reduces the likelihood of mishaps.

Kingston

Kingston Jamaica is a lovely country overall...Tourists always come here basically every month to enjoy the sunshine and fun activities that jamaica has to offer... My advise when visiting any country you still have to be vigilant and cautious of your surroundings...but in all I can positively say Jamaica is a fun and interesting country to visit...

Montego Bay

For the typical solo traveler, Montego Bay is quite safe. The same recommendations for any other major cities apply here: avoid going out at night alone, keep valuables hidden while out and keep your wits about you. Folks will try to price gouge tourists, but in general no one will bother you. In fact, they’ll mostly do their best to be helpful.

Is Jamaica worth visiting?

Montego Bay, Group travel

My experience in Jamaica was good and fun. I stayed in an all inclusive resort so I didn’t experience the actual city as much. We took a bus to our excursions but I heard Jamaica isn’t the safest place

Jamaica, Solo travel

Traveled to Jamaica in April 2024 (for the 3rd time in a year, countless time in life). I always feel safe, at peace and at home there. The food is amazing, the people are kind, there’s non shortage of outdoor adventures to go on. We have been staying at airbnbs on the island. This past trip, we traversed the north coast which started in Montego Bay to Ocho Rios to Port Antonio with a few stops in between. Favorite is always Port Antonio — best community of people on the island, very lush landscape and plenty of activities to take part it!
