My first solo trip. I went for a long weekend so I didn’t plan on doing too much-beach, pool, and went on one excursion(I stayed at a resort). So glad I went, I met a new friend from another country& we had a blast together.

I Traveled with a friend. We met a lot of people and new friends. We were at Riu Republica resort, it was adults only, and it is the best place if you want to have fun. The Pool was the best part. I would like to go again.
Posted: December 14, 2025Experienced: January, 2019You are safe at all times but there is an insane amount of catcalling everywhere you go. Amazing Italian food, but little curious local dishes (and nothing if you are vegetarian/vegan). BEAUTIFUL country island though. I personally stayed far away from Punta Cana and Santo Domingo, there is way too much beauty to be found without the annoying vacationers and gentrified areas
Posted: August 9, 2025Safe in tourist areas! Do: Punta Cana beaches, Saona Island, Santo Domingo Zona Colonial. Skip: overpriced tours. Eat: mofongo, fresh seafood. Budget: $70+/day. Stayed in Breathless Resort (Punta Cana) & boutique in Santo Domingo. Buses/taxis easy. Loved it

Stayed in Cabarete. Kite surfing, jungle explorations, and healthy eating. Beaches were beautiful. Stayed in condo, so more European travelers than natives, although other side of street had local shops and food that was wonderful. Easy to walk around and engage with travel agencies for adventures. Tricky to know which paths were for residents v. Open use bit you get the hang of it.

Is a safe place as long as you are in the right places, because like other countries it has its places with greater danger. But I recommend to everyone the capital Santo Domingo is very tourist, safe and comfortable.
Posted: January 4, 2025I've been advised not to go out at night and not hike or go to secluded areas alone. Where I live, in Costambar is fine though. It's a sort of gated community, with security, I can leave my bag unsupervised at the beach.
Posted: December 31, 2024Santiago is safest during the day and with a local, however, you will be fun by yourself as well once you get familiar with the area. The more tourist centered or busy the location is the safer you will be.
Posted: December 30, 2024Santiago is consider one of the most safest city in Dominican Republic but you should be aware of your surroundings like everywhere in the world :) , if you’re walking around the city don’t use your phone in case you really need it

It's not an unsafe city in comparison with other places in Latin America. However, our place as women is very low as this is a very patriarchal society. Each time I go out to walk there's a man that harrases me or that tells me that k should walk alone. It's irritating!!

My name is Cat, I’m 29, and I’m searching for ways to travel on a budget. I would like to find a place to stay in Miami for a month, and in return I can host your stay in Santiago, DR. I look forward to talking and hopefully meeting you!
