I was on a solo trip to Maui. It was so amazing and I didn’t feel unsafe once. I stayed at a hostel where they offered free tours which was a great way to meet new people and see cool places on the island. I highly recommend going.
Posted: June 10, 2023Paia is right before the start of Road to Hana. Explore it on your way back to your hotel. There is a beach right at the beginning of Road to Hana where there is usually a lot of turtles. Make sure to be respectful and keep your distance. If you're looking to see the turtles in the ocean, the black rock area in front of the Sheraton at the north end of the hotels is always a great area where you'll most likely see sea turtles. I really enjoyed Haleakala at sunrise - you do need to reserve that ahead of time. If you do this, make sure you bring warm clothes.
Posted: October 17, 2022Maui is great for snorkeling and beach time! There are tons of snorkel trips too. We liked Paia's Hookipa Beach to see all the sea turtles. The Road to Hana is long and kind of boring. If you do go, stop often to see the waterfalls and the Bamboo Forest. Don't book it through the resorts - it's more expensive.
