Is Jeddah good for solo travel?

Safety:

Safety:Safe

Jeddah is a progressive city compared to other parts of the country. However, as a solo female traveler, you may encounter cultural norms that may seem restrictive. It is compulsory for women to wear an abaya in public places. It's also important to be aware that the social interaction between men and women is limited. However, recently reforms have been implemented to attract tourists and make the environment more welcoming for them. You should avoid traveling alone at night and stay in public, well-lit areas. Public transportation is reliable but can be problematic for solo female travelers due to gender segregation. It's recommended to hire a private vehicle or use hotel shuttle services for transportation. While it's relatively safe, understanding and abiding by the societal norms is crucial for your safety.
Transport:

Transport:Moderate

Navigating Jeddah as a solo female traveler poses a moderate challenge. Although recent years have seen a progressive change in laws, women are still required to adhere to a modest dress code. The city itself offers a blend of modern infrastructure and historic sites. However, it's important to know a bit of Arabic or have a reliable translation app as English is not widely spoken.

Jeddah, is historically rich and visually stunning. It is a cosmopolitan city with many attractions such as the stunning Corniche, the mesmerizing floating mosque, and Al-Balad – the vibrant old town recognized by UNESCO. However, some restrictions concerning women's dress code and going out alone might affect some activities as a female solo traveler.
Food:

Food:Above average

Jeddah has an astonishing variety of culinary delights, drawing from both the local traditions and international palates. You'll find everything from Middle Eastern cuisine, including the delectable Saudi Arabian dishes, to the flavors of East Asia, Europe, and the Americas. However, adapting to some of the traditional Saudi Arabian food might take some time for foreign taste buds. Some might also find dining options slightly limited due to Halal provisions.
Budget:

Budget:Moderate

Jeddah is moderately budget-friendly. The cost of living is reasonable when compared to many other tourist destinations. Accommodation varies widely in price, with budget options available. Eating local food can be quite affordable, but western food and high-end dining can be costly. Local transport is generally cheap, but sightseeing costs may add up depending on your interests. Overall, a moderate budget would cover a comfortable stay in Jeddah.

Is Jeddah worth visiting?

Solo travel experience

I did a 4 day stopover in Jeddah and I had a blast. The old town was gorgeous. People were mostly active at night and it was just such a different experience. Very few tourists and I felt safe as a solo female traveler.

Solo travel experience

My solo trip to Jeddah was great! Visiting Makkah was a spiritual journey, and taking taxis around was convenient. The lonely corniche, pleasant weather, and overall safety made it a really peaceful trip.
