Safety:Moderate

Although Palestine has a rich history and culture, safety for solo female travelers can vary. Generally, people are hospitable and respectful towards female tourists. However, in certain areas the socio-political climate can be volatile. It is advisable to dress modestly, avoid walking alone at night, and always be aware of the local customs and laws. It is also important to monitor travel advisory or news updates prior to your trip. Research well, use common sense, and be mindful of the regions you are visiting.

Transport:Moderate

Navigating through Palestine offers a unique set of challenges and rewards. While large cities are relatively well served by public transport options, smaller areas may require a bit of planning. Security checks can add unpredictability to travel. That being said, locals are usually very friendly and willing to help. It's also important to be aware of cultural norms and dress appropriately. The language barrier can be a hindrance as English is not widely spoken outside the major cities, so learning few Arabic phrases can be useful.

Things to do:Interesting

Palestine enjoys a rich historical and cultural framework that makes it intriguing for solo female travelers. Apart from being home to some of the world's most significant religious sites, Palestine also offers a broad range of activities like exploring ancient ruins, architecture, local markets, and cuisine. There's much to learn from the warm hospitality of the locals. However, like in any destination, do pay heed to advisories and stay aware of the local political scenario. Don't forget to explore the diverse landscapes, from desert dunes to lush green valleys, and the urban arts scene.

Food:Excellent

The food in Palestine offers an exceptional range of diverse tastes and culinary traditions. From hearty maqluba, falafel and musakhan, to sweet and aromatic kunafa, the Palestinian cuisine is a wonderful reflection of its rich heritage and culture. Fresh and locally-sourced ingredients, the traditional preparation methods, and the mixture of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern flavors make the dining experience uniquely satisfying. Despite not naming any, there are numerous local eateries as well as high-end restaurants where you can enjoy such delicacies. Given such delights and variations, one can comfortably say that Palestine's food is nothing less than a foodie's paradise.

Budget:Moderate

Palestine can be considered moderately budget-friendly. Although it's not the cheapest destination, travelers can find good deals for accommodation, especially in hostels and guesthouses. Local food is often affordable and public transportation is relatively inexpensive. Travelers can visit a lot of historical and cultural sites at little to no cost. However, traveling around can get expensive if you decide to hire private transportation.

Solo travel experience

Beautiful people, cobblestoned city streets. Delicious food, historical sites in Nazareth, Jerusalem, Jericho. Current conflict means not safe to travel now, but if and when things settle, I highly recommend experiencing this complex corner of the world yourself. Much to be learned.

About Me

Hi, I'm Luhar and for the past 7 years I have been living abroad as an international student. Graduated from United World College (UWC) in Germany and I'm about to start my last year doing a BA at College of the Atlantic in the US after which I will hopefully continue for a MA in conflict studies. I always appreciate sitting down for a cup of tea and a conversation and getting to hear stories and learn about places. Cultures, justice and arts are especially close to my heart.
