I lived with the locals for several months, so i don't have an account of the luxury hostels in the area, but the place is wonderful ! The only security problem on the island is the dog ! The hostels budget is overpriced, being on the main island is cheaper and also has its advantages, it's much less artificial

As a alone travelling woman I felt like I’m a milk cow. Everyone is trying to get money from u. But some locals are friendly indeed but the gap between poor and rich is huge. Also I felt Bit lonely bc not many there to connect.

It depends where you are on the island. Most of the time locals are friendly and warm. But as a woman never walk alone at night in town (Papeete) there is some crazy people. There are some neighborhoods you should avoids as well as they are known to be dangerous.

Papeete

This is a pretty safe place compared to most places! Like any city after it gets late there are people drinking around and that’s when it gets a bit less safe. During the day it’s great! I’ve never felt unsafe walking around here but there’s a bit of toxic masculinity I noticed sometimes nothing major however!

Papeete

Local people are really helpful and nice. They will help you if you are in need. I feel safe in the city and also around the beaches. Also it’s a small town that welcomes a lot of tourists so people are use to share with foreigners.

French Polynesia

French Polynesia is a place where locals are kinds and open-minded. It’s in our culture to help and welcome people. If you are lost, locals will guide you. But, the « zero risk » doesn’t exist but it’s safe in French Polynesia.
