Here, colonial architecture converges with contemporary life creating a captivating contrast: while the Gothic-spun Santa Ana Cathedral and the opulent Teatro de Santa Ana reflect the city's historic grandeur, the bustling markets and lively street life showcase the city's modern, dynamic face. Surrounding the city are the towering volcanoes of Izalco and Santa Ana, inviting nature-lovers to enjoy invigorating hikes and stunning views. The city's close proximity to the Mayan ruins of Tazumal and the stunning Lake Coatepeque makes it an ideal base for exploring these famed sites of El Salvador.

Santa Ana

Santa Ana is the perfect city to base yourself for a lot of daytrips. We did a city tour with Carlos via the website 'Guru' which included a lot of typical salvadorian food.
The other days we went to Salto de Malacatiupan, Concepcion de Ataco, Lago Coatepeque and Tazumal. We rented a car for this which made it easier to come and go since we're a family of six.
