Is Dominican Republic safe for female travelers?

You are safe at all times but there is an insane amount of catcalling everywhere you go. Amazing Italian food, but little curious local dishes (and nothing if you are vegetarian/vegan). BEAUTIFUL country island though. I personally stayed far away from Punta Cana and Santo Domingo, there is way too much beauty to be found without the annoying vacationers and gentrified areas

Safe in tourist areas! Do: Punta Cana beaches, Saona Island, Santo Domingo Zona Colonial. Skip: overpriced tours. Eat: mofongo, fresh seafood. Budget: $70+/day. Stayed in Breathless Resort (Punta Cana) & boutique in Santo Domingo. Buses/taxis easy. Loved it
