Dominican Republic are tropical paradise with extremely beautiful nature, fun local people, tasty food. I fell in love with this place. Trip into capital city was interesting. There are also local zoo with exotic animals. Watersport. I would recommend to visit this country.

We visitedPuerto Plata, Dominican Republic last year and stayed on resort but did many activities off resort, mostly through excursions. The cable car up the mountain was amazing but it is combined in a tour with other things we weren't as interested in seeing. But I am betting you can book and do a lot of activities solo and likely save money, but should book a private car. We always felt safe but did not venture far into the city on our own for my partners comfort level, though I would have! We walked along the beach to a restaurant off-resort to find the best seafood and were followed back by a stray dog who spooked us at first but was very gentle. Its a beautiful country with so much to do, highly recommend!
