Barbados is an extremely safe country. As women, we felt safe walking around at night. Locals are all friendly and helpful! The natural landscape is also beautiful. The public transit is quite good for a Caribbean island, and is very affordable. 

The only /slight/ downside is that Barbados is slightly more expensive than other beach destinations. But in my opinion the price is made up for by the safety of the people, affordable /reliable transit, and public beaches.
