Please don't walk around anywhere after dark. Even if there's a lot of people around you. Ask a restaurant personal to walk you to your car. Make sure the Uber driver is who he says he is and that you are in the correct car.

Pretoria generally offers a moderate level of safety for tourists, but caution is advised. Petty crime like pickpocketing and bag snatching is common, especially in crowded areas. Violent crime rates are higher in certain areas, so it's crucial to be aware of your surroundings, avoid isolated areas, especially at night, and use reputable transportation. As a resident here, I haven't experienced any issues over the past year.
