Pretoria is a city where you have to remain vigilant at all times. I would not advise showing your phone or wallet in public, as someone may see an opportunity to rob you. Additionally, I would not walk in the streets at night, unless you are in a well guarded area or complex. Some public transport is safe to use, such as the Gautrein. However, I would recommend renting a car to get around the city. Don’t forget to lock your car, as car theft is very common. Be vigilant of where you park your car and which areas you are driving through.
