We hitchhiked into Rincón and it was completely safe and went well! We hitchhiked out as well. Everyone is so nice. A few locals kept telling us that Rincón is one of the safest areas in Puerto Rico.
Posted: January 27, 2025San Juan is 100% safe, except for La Perla area. Just skip it and you’re good. All the areas of San Juan are safe. You can walk at night, take an Uber, or stay alone on the beach at any time, for example.

San Juan is a fairly safe place. There are also very safe towns like Rincon, Vieques, and Culebra. Using Uber is a safe mode of transportation that I recommend. Old San Juan is a quite safe area where there are always police, and you can walk alone at night. Still, it's always good to be cautious.
Posted: January 9, 2025In las piedras Puerto Rico there’s nothing to do I will say that rob is medium but if you go to San Juan la Perla there’s a bit more dangerous areas than over here in la isla, I feel comfortable the majority of the time

People in aguadilla are nice & helpful. I’ve been living alone for a couple of months here and don’t feel in danger living in this area. On the contrary, locals from this side if the island have helped and guided me. I always stay vigilant just in case, but I’ve gone to beaches alone & have felt very safe.

Depends on where you hang out really and at what time of the day. I've never really had any violent encounters or have been mugged or molested. But I've known plenty of people who have so it's good to always be cautious. That being said, Cayey is beautiful.
Posted: December 28, 2024I personally feel safe in Mayaguez, but I live in a secure area with really nice and vigilant neighbors. I don’t spend any time by myself at night in public areas so I am not the best person to access the level of safety her. Mayaguez during the daytime feels very safe to me and I have never had any issues. People have always been very kind and warm. But again, this is my personal experience and not an all knowing reference point.
Posted: December 27, 2024People are very friendly and caring overall. There's always a good grampa around to help anywhere in the Island. And If you guet lost, there's always a helping hand from strangers. The beauty of puertorrican is that we all carre to share anything that we have.
Posted: December 23, 2024As far as my six years of living in San Juan goes, I’m quite comfortable walking in almost all areas any time of day. I would just say to avoid the La Perla neighborhood in Old San Juan at night. I experience a lot of catcalling but never felt physically threatened by any means.

Spent the day in Rincón with my new friend! We got Mexican food at Vatos Locos Taqueria (delicious and affordable) and acaí bowls and the beach was beautiful and the water was warm! Highly recommend Rincón, hoping to visit again tomorrow :)
Posted: January 25, 2025Experienced: January, 2025I stayed in several areas of Puerto Rico; from Rio Grande (near El Yunque, one of the world’s largest rainforests), Old San Juan, Miramar, Condado, Rio Piedras to Carolina. My favorite area out of all was Rio Grande-I stayed behind Coco Beach Reserve, which has a PGA Golf course. Puerto Rico overall is absolutely gorgeous, many beaches around and amazing stuff to do and see. However, the food is on the bland side (at least for me) but freshness is usually top tier. I prefer shopping and cooking at home. It is quite expensive-expect to spend anywhere from $50 and up a meal. Ubers are inexpensive if you’re in an area you can get a ride. Otherwise, you’ll need to rent a car-that and gas can add up quickly. People are generally friendly and helpful. I never once felt unsafe or worried; again use common sense when traveling and do listen to the locals about where and where not to go. I think everyone should visit at least once, given the opportunity.

Karina
Hello! I'm a 25 year old girl still searching for her place in the world but I know for sure that travelling is one of the few things in life that gets me so excited. I love planning trips, and discovering new places and getting to know new people even though I'm still working with my introverted side.
