Lynn

Hi! My name is Lynn and I live in Amsterdam (NL). I’m a medical student currently in a gap year. Currently spending my time working, keeping up a healthy lifestyle and partying. In april and may I’ll be travelling to Nicaragua and Costa Rica to learn more about myself and the world around us. If you’re going there as well in this period please hit me up! :)

Experiences from Nicaragua

We went to Leon (be sure to go up to the roof of the cathedral) & Managua and it was all lovely. We only had a long Thanksgiving weekend, while living in Costa Rica, so skipped the volcano boarding and didn’t get to the beach. But we did go up Masaya at night which was simply amazing to stand at the brink of a live volcano. A baseball game in Leon will cost you a couple dollars & is worth it. If we had had time, we really wanted to go to Ometepe.
Ometepe for a few nights, if you want to party try and time your stay in Granada with the treehouse party on Friday nights. San Juan also for Sunday fun day! Popoyo was my favourite place in Nicaragua - surf and super chill vibes. Leon is also great, we stayed at a hostel called poco a poco which I found better facilities than Bigfoot but you still do the volcano boarding tour with them. Nicaragua was my fave country in Central America, can’t wait to go back!
Nicaraguan here! It really depends on what you enjoy. If you're looking for a beach holiday, then definitely choose San Juan del Sur over las peñitas. Don't stay in town unless you're looking to party, there are beautiful beaches around San Juan with great accommodation. Look at playa Maderas, Majagual, el Ostional, el Remanso. These are close enough to town so you can grab a bite or a drink but still go back to an incredible, secluded beach. Beaches in Tola are also beautiful (Popoyo, Gigante, Amarillo). If you're looking for a more cultural trip then I'd recommend hitting León and Granada, both colonial towns. Definitely stay as short as possible in Managua, not much to see here!
