Experiences from Mauritius

Solo travel experience

Mauritius is beautiful and fantastic, but I would also like to warn about petty crime. Many young people are unemployed and would like to have what others have. Please be cautious, especially when walking alone, when encountering groups of young people. Keep your smartphone or other valuable items hidden. I advise avoiding deserted wild beaches. On the other hand, large urban beaches are completely safe and guarded – that's where I recommend walking and sunbathing. Another issue in Mauritius is the vast number of stray dogs that roam the beaches and streets in packs.

Solo travel experience

Although I had a good time I would not recommend traveling here solo. There are very few singles and it is not safe to walk around by yourself at night.
