Overall a great experience and would recommend visiting if you can. Felt safe as a woman alone in KL, even at night in less crowded areas. Lots of great food options from Malay, Chinese, Indian cuisine and more. Almost every place has Halal options if that matters to you. Accommodation, food and especially travel were relatively affordable. Lots of shopping malls and other market areas to explore.

Solo travel experience

I was in Kuala Lumpur for 5 days and I never felt unsafe. People were friendly and helpful. I used Grab to get around the city, and all the drivers were nice. Nobody bothered me when I was going somewhere alone. Nevertheless, I didn't wander into side streets and similar places.

Solo travel experience

Kuala Lumpur is a beautiful city, but the unsafe feeling has put me off both times I've been there. The first time I was alone and it was during summer so I was wearing shorts and could feel eyes staring most of the times even when just walking around (not near mosques or anything like that). My hotel had a paper on the door saying that if you are a woman you shouldnt walk alone when it's dare even though we were in the center. The owner of the hotel recommended me to go to the "party hostel" down the road because itwas near and had a rooftop were people got togethere every night until late. The second time I went to KL I stayed in that Hostel, called "reggae mansion" and it was lots of fun and made friends to walk around with. Aside from that, there are interesting things to see, my favorite was the main mosque where you can rent proper clothes if you dont have any. It's very modern and there are many nice malls. I took the double decker tourist bus and found little cute places like a bird zoo where birds roam free and you can interact with them. Street food is amazing and so cheap! The buses are also cheap and easy to use.
