About Me

Iโ€™m a Dutch student, loves food, drinks, hikes, weird clubs and (semi-planned) adventure. I would be a backpacker type if I didnโ€™t have a 4-step skincare routine and a strong need for a certain level of hygiene. Iโ€™ll be in Ho Chi Minh City from 25 to 31 August, then in Singapore until 2 September. 3rd of September onwards Iโ€™ll be in Gold Coast, Australia ๐Ÿฆ˜

If you are a foodie and are not scared of trying new local cuisine... you gonna have a blast! Please do visit the digital art museum and if you love fish then a visit to Tsukiji fish market is a must. The sushiโ€™s there are as fresh as it gets. Definitely try the fatty tuna ones. Also a walk around Harajuku street would blow your mind if you are into crazy fashion style. Sensoji Temple at Asakusa will give you the zen flavour of Japan. And for night life Kabukicho and Shinjuku golden gai. Do check the table charges before entering any izakaya (Japanese pubs), they can get expensive at times. I recommend the convini store food... they are fresh, cheap and you can get a hint of the taste of the Japanese food before you go all out on them.... please please do try the curry bun... whenever and anywhere that you can lay your hands on them... 7/11 stores definitely have them and some street vendors also sell them. Also you can go crazy with what all you can have from a vending machine, from hot or cold coffee and tea to your beer fixes to hot soups and also ice creams.

I stayed in an Airbnb in Yoyogi in Tokyo because it was walking distance to Shinjuku, Yoyogi Park and Harajuku, and a direct route to Tokyo Station for traveling to Kyoto. The first time I went to Japan, I allocated 3 days for Tokyo and 4 for Kyoto, and ended up switching and staying in Tokyo two extra nights because I loved it so much.

We stayed at the Dormy Inn Akihabara (they have an onsen on the roof) and it was reasonably priced. If you are going during cherry blossom festival time (late March early April), then just be aware that hotels are harder to get then. Also Ueno park is lovely during that time. We went into National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation which was okay. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building has a free view at the top of their building. If you have time, take the bullet train down to Kyoto which has a different vibe than Toyko.
