Safety:Safe

Pisa generally offers a safe travel experience for solo female travelers. While overall crime rates are low, like any tourist destination, it is common sense to always stay vigilant and aware of your surroundings, particularly in crowded areas. Local customs and norms are respectful towards women. However, you may experience occasional catcalling or unsolicited attention. Proper precautions should include avoiding lonely streets at night and not exposing valuables in public. Local authorities are usually helpful and most people understand English.

Transport:Easy

Pisa is fairly easy to navigate as it is a small city and most of the significant tourist attractions, including the famous Leaning Tower, are close together. Walking is a popular option but there are also plenty of bicycles available for rent. It does get busy with tourists, especially in high season, which could be a bit overwhelming for some.

Things to do:Interesting

Pisa is a place filled with enriching historical sites and cultural experiences. Besides the iconic Leaning Tower, it offers Pisa Cathedral, Baptistry, and the monumental Cemetery, all located in the Piazza dei Miracoli. The city also boasts the beautiful botanical gardens at Orto botanico di Pisa, art-rich Museo Nazionale, and River Arno for a delightful stroll. Despite its richness, the size of Pisa is compact, which makes it easier to explore.

Food:Above average

Pisa offers an excellent culinary experience with a variety of options. A foodie's paradise, the city presents diverse, high-quality local dishes in its wide array of eateries, bistros, and cafes. From seafood to traditional Tuscan recipes, and not forgetting the popular gelato spots, the choice is quite satisfactory. Portions are generally hearty and flavorful while allowing for varying budgets. A point is deducted as some places may lack vegan or other types of dietary options.

Budget:Moderate

Pisa offers a moderate cost of living. Accommodation charges and food expenses can be kept pocket-friendly if chosen wisely. Tourists spots like the Leaning Tower of Pisa and other museums have entry fees which are typical to most European destinations. Public transport is affordable but walking is the best (and free) way of getting around to explore this small city. However, the overall expenses should be manageable for a budget-conscious traveler.

Is Pisa worth visiting?

Solo travel experience

The museum and the Duomo in the cathedral square are charming. I also really liked the botanical gardens. But besides that, I didn't find much to do there. It's definitely worth a visit, I felt very safe there. I recommend staying in Florence and taking a day trip to Pisa.
