Safety:Safe

Amritsar is a relatively safe city for solo female travellers. Most parts of the city are safe to travel during the day. However, like any other city, it has areas which can be unsafe at late night hours. Street harassment and petty theft might be an issue. However, the local Sikh community is very hospitable. Public transport is popular and safe to use in broad daylight. Precautions such as avoiding isolated areas at night, being aware of surroundings, and maintaining general travel vigilance are advised.

Transport:Moderate

Amritsar has a decent network of public transportation and a lot of attractions are located quite near to each other. However, the city can get quite crowded and chaotic during peak hours, which might pose some challenges. Language can be a barrier too if you're not familiar with Punjabi or Hindi. It is highly suggested to use a map and try to learn a few basic phrases. Always dress modestly and be cautious of pickpockets.

Amritsar is a culinary paradise for food lovers. The city offers an exceptionally diverse array of food options, from traditional Punjabi cuisines to an amalgamation of international flavors. Their street food is extraordinarily lip-smacking which ranges from spicy kulfis to Amritsari kulchas. Also, you can't miss out on their trademark lassi and the globally recognized butter chicken. Every nook and cranny introduces you to a new flavor, making the culinary experience an adventure in itself.

Budget:Affordable

Amritsar is one of the most budget-friendly destinations in India. Accommodation, food, and transportation are all quite reasonably priced. The main attractions, such as the Golden Temple, are free to enter. Shopping at the local markets for local artisan goods and clothes can also be done at affordable prices. However, like any other place, it becomes pricey if you opt for luxury accommodations or high-end dining.

Solo travel experience

Being a South Indian I never got a chance to visit north India until this Amritsar trip, so after a family trip I took a diversion and caught bus from Jaipur to Amritsar. I was staying in Madpackers hostel where I made made lot of friends - from then I didn’t have to turn back it ended up like a group trip with lot of friends.
