Tunisia is safe and cheap. An amazing country that I can't stop missing. The delicious spicy food, the friendly hospitable people, and the wonderful views.
Posted: April 6, 2024I've been to Tunisia twice on my own and I traveled around by taxi. I felt safe. I got some silly pick-up lines from teenagers on the beach, but a firm refusal was enough to fend them off.
Posted: April 1, 2024When I walked alone on the beaches, guys would approach me, either wanting to chat, take a photo, or straight up propositioning sex but I didn't feel in danger. I was more discouraged by the fact that it was the same thing over and over again and it was hard to fend them off. Apart from that had a great time in Tunisia.
Posted: March 31, 2024I spent a weekend alone in Tunisia and I visited Tunis, Sidi Bou Said, Testour, and Dougga and had a great time. I stayed in an Airbnb with a local family, and an experienced guide helped me navigate the cities and surroundings. I always felt safe. The people were so nice. It's a pity I couldn't stay there longer.
Posted: December 26, 2023I recently returned from Tunisia and it was fantastic. I feel that it is safer there and slightly more developed than in Egypt. In Tunis, I recommend visiting Medina, Carthage, and Sidi Bou Said, which are spectacular. Hammamet has beautiful beaches. In Sousse, the Medina is nice, and the Dar Essid museum is really worth a visit. In Monastir, I visited the Medina and Riad. I also went on a two-day desert tour, which was the best decision. I visited the impressive El Jem, Berber houses in Matmata, Douz at the gates of the Sahara, and the amazing oasis Chebika. The food is amazing, the people are very friendly and you can travel by taxi. Everything is negotiable. The rule is that you can cut the initial price in half and start from there. I love their culture, history, and heritage and highly recommend a visit.
Posted: December 3, 2023My first solo trip took place to continental Tunisia. During the day, I walked alone, and in the evenings I spent time with the people I met there. I landed at night and was taken to a hotel by some bus, completely alone. Honestly, I wasn't thinking too much about safety at that time. I covered the area from Monastir to Tunis and I was very comfortable with that.
Posted: September 30, 2023I spent an incredible time in Tunisia during my solo weekend trip. I visited Tunis, Sidi Bou Said, Testour, and Dougga and it was amazing. I wish I could have stayed there longer, but I am glad I went. Staying with a local family on Airbnb and having an experienced guide showing me the area made the trip even better. Everyone was so friendly, and I felt safe all the time. Tunisia was even better than I expected.
Posted: July 31, 2023I rented a car and spent 2 weeks alone in Tunisia - now it's one of my favourite countries. I drove from Tunis all the way south to Matmata and back north through Kairouan and Dougga. I never encountered any aggression and met several friendly, hospitable people along the way. The only place where I felt unsafe were the back alleys of Sfax.
Posted: April 23, 2023I spent 2 weeks in Tunisia on a solo car journey and overall found it to be a safe place, with super friendly local residents. The country was beautiful with a rich history.
Posted: April 2, 2023It's really safe. The only time I felt like I was being gawked at was when I went to Medina. But it's a market. They see me, fair skin, and blonde hair, and of course a tourist...they think of selling. So the merchants were a bit intrusive... but nothing I couldn't handle before. Other than that. A beautiful country. Incredibly friendly and hospitable people. I loved spending time there and I can't wait to go back. Sidi Bou Said is a must-visit place, Medina is also very nice. I also visited Hammamet and I recommend seeing this place.

My solo trip to Tunisia was okay, but many of my tours got cancelled. I'm hoping to go again and have a better experience. The pirate ship was fun, and the hotel staff were amazing. I would like to see more of Tunisia. I plan on visiting again in November 2023.
Posted: February 16, 2024Experienced: November, 2022Favorite trip Ive taken, went with an organized tour. So much to see and do, fantastic food. Extremely inexpensive. The people are very nice and helpful, in my experience. Did get playful comments on my appearance but no harrassment or catcalling. Would suggest going with an organized tour if you want to see the whole country as I dont think they have great tourist infrastructure (when compared to Morocco and Egypt for example)
