Izola is a truly warm and simply beautiful place to slow down. I found the beaches, which are very easily accessible on foot, to be the most beautiful. My favorites were Strunjan Beach and Bele Skale Beach, truly wonderful.

I wouldn’t really recommend it for people with a fear of heights, but for those who enjoy hiking, it’s an amazing spot – truly beautiful and pleasant. I loved every minute I spent there and I’m longing to go back. If someone wants to swim, that’s possible too in a few lakes, though the water will be pretty cold, haha.

I spent a week travelling around with my parents in the western parts. We did some challenging hikes, but every step was worth it. The views were stunning. The crystal clear water is no joke. It was fun to swim in the Alpine rivers. We did Tolmin, Vintgar, Kozak, Bled, Postojna, Maribor, Skocjan. My favourite was Skocjan. It is out of this world. The size of that underground canyon is just unbelievable. I wish I could post pictures of it, but it was not allowed. But if you need to make a decision between Postojna or Skocjan. Easily Skocjan. Tolmin and Vintgar was another fan favourite. Truly magical. Food was great. Definitely recommend the layered cake in Bled and the cheese soup in Tolmin. The sausages are great everywhere. We travelled by car, but the serpentine ls are no joke. I wish we would go mainly on highways next time. It was not worth the dizziness and twists and curves even the the view was gorgeous. People spoke great English and were super helpful. But I was a bit scared of brown bears. Before travelling a lady was just attacked next to Ljubljana. But obviously it was highly unlikely that I meet one. But still I was a bit stressed about it. I got a mini cow bell in Vintgar just in case. As they say that no bear wants to meet you if they hear you ahead, but obviously next to waterfalls and noise they might not hear you. Money wise I feel like it is not cheap at all. But European prices. Lot of trails were priced. But definitely worth it. I will come back hopefully to do some more wild swimming, canyoning and more underground tours.

Posted: July 29, 2025Love Ljubljana! It is a very beautiful and young city. It is very easy to connect and meet other solo travelers and make great experiences with each other. The local food is alright, but not suited for vegetarians. But I felt very safe as a woman :)

If you want to be safe in Ljubljana, visit it especially during the day, never, or at least if you stay in Ljubljana after midnight. Using public transport is very safe, there is no need to be afraid. People are very friendly and happy to help you. Despite the fact that Slovenia is a very safe country, it is not superfluous to keep an eye on your belongings and check who you hang out with.
