Helsinki and Finland in general is a totally safe place to visit alone as a woman. I had no problems at all and it is one of the safest places I have ever been to. It is a very expensive city and Finland in general as well. The cheapest cup of coffee can cost you around 5/6 euros and an average meal can go around 25/30 euros per dish. I recommend you to visit helsinki's public library which is very very interesting to discover and it also has an affordable cafe and buffet (13 euros)

I had a great time, it was my first solo trip and I really enjoyed it. I felt safe all the time. Finnish people are so welcoming and kind. The food was good, transportation is cheap (in general Helsinki isn’t that expensive).
Posted: February 26, 2024Experienced: April, 2023A very beautiful, interesting and safe city. The people are quite reserved but very respectful and speak English very very well. This is a lot to do and see (like museums, sightseeing, concerts and parties).
Posted: November 3, 2023Experienced: August, 2023I went to Helsinki on vacation last year and I really enjoyed it there. I would definitely recommend a day trip to Tallinn, as it's very easy to get there by ferry (I think the trip takes about 2 hours). My favorite thing to do in Helsinki was using the saunas. Overall, I had a great time there and felt very safe.
Posted: July 27, 2023I took my solo trip to Helsinki last summer. I love this city. It's peaceful, safe, and easy to navigate. As an English speaker, I found that it's easy for me to communicate and travel. I recommend the salmon soup, I love it.
Posted: April 23, 2023Things to do: - Linnanmäki Amusement Park - Finnish Science Centre Heureka - Sibelius monument - Töölö park Safety: During my solo travels in Helsinki, I felt incredibly safe. Recommendations: Helsinki is a relatively small and young city. It's also very expensive and it's better to visit it in the summer.
Posted: September 13, 2022To do: - Market - Chapel of Silence - Helsinki City Museum - Suomenlinna Safety: Helsinki is probably one of the safest capitals in the world. Recommendations: Helsinki is worth visiting, the city is nice and charming, but it's probably my least favorite North capital that I had the opportunity to see.
Posted: September 6, 2022Things to do: - Suomenlinna - Temppeliaukio Church - Helsinki Cathedral - Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma - Uspenski Cathedral - Main Market Square - Sibelius Monument - Ateneum - Linnanmäki Safety: Helsinki is extremely safe, so there is no reason to worry. Recommendations: Helsinki is a wonderful city, but quite expensive, especially restaurants and everything related to alcohol.

It is very safe even for a woman to walk around alone. There is almost no risk that you’ll be a victim of pickpocketing, kidnapping, sexual assaults, or any kinds of danger. You don’t need to worry but being always cautious is important anywhere as you know.
Posted: April 14, 2024Helsinki is a very safe place! I would recommend avoiding central station during the night but other than that it’s pretty safe everywhere. And there are lots of guards and police in the center always!
Posted: April 13, 2024Helsinki is generally very safe. As Finland's biggest city, it is a bit wilder than rest of the country, but that is not saying much since the whole country is remarkably safe. I have walked 30+ minutes alone several times in the middle of the night during Pride week going to my accommodation after a night of clubbing, and no one has ever bothered me. Do keep in mind that public transport stops every night for a few hours. During the nights there might be harassment in the city center area, but mostly verbal. A woman is rarely in physical danger in Helsinki. The only trouble area of the city is the outside area between main train station, Kiasma and Oodi. This is the area where men always appear to harass me, even in the middle of the day. If you are a woman alone in that area, do not stop. As long as you are with company or walking with purpose towards any direction you should not have any trouble at all, not even catcalling. Helsinki is also the only place in Finland where I have ever experienced sexual harassment in broad daylight, and I have lived in this country my whole life. Luckily these incidents can still be counted with one hand's fingers.
Posted: April 8, 2024I have lived in Helsinki for many years and I think it is very safe here. You are safe even if you walk around alone late at night. Of course you have to be cautious just like in any other city, but generally it's very safe.

It is fairly safe in Helsinki. Although I would avoid walking alone at night in certain areas of the city (such as Itäkeskus and Kontula). Also, public transportation is generally safe, but sometimes at Friday/Saturday nights you can encounter a drunk person who may try to start a conversation.

I have never felt unsafe in helsinki, its the country where crime rate is almost zero. You can take a walk even in the middle of the night and no one will dare to harass you or approach you. I feel so safe here

Beautiful city, would love to visit in summer, as it was very cold in February, and there was therefore not much to do at the time. There are boat trips to several islands, which is good fun, and interesting, but again very cold and icy, so you need to come prepared!

I have been to Helsinki twice, for a week each time. Winter and late autumn. The weather was a bit cold of course but nothing too bad. I love this city for its simplicity, calmness and scandi style! Also for the museums and food. I visited Kiasma, the national Finnish museum (this is a must!), the design museum and the art museum, all were great! Also don't miss the old food market. If you like hiking, I definitely recommend Nuuksio national park. I spent a whole day there and made some great memories!
