Always trust your instincts and take the same safety precautions that you would in your own country.

Public transportation:Safe

In Galápagos, public transportation is generally safe. Boats and buses are the most commonly used modes of transport to get to different islands and areas within the islands respectively. All are regulated and typically safe to use. However, it's advisable for solo female travelers to remain attentive to their belongings and surroundings, especially during the night, for personal safety.

Street harassment:Low

Petty crimes:Low

In the Galápagos Islands, the risk of experiencing petty crimes like pickpocketing or purse snatching is relatively low compared to other tourist destinations. The islands are generally safe, with a notable police presence, especially in populated areas. However, even though crime rates are low, taking standard precautions such as not leaving any belongings unattended and keeping personal items secure and close to you at all times would be advisable.

Tap water:Unsafe

Group travel experience

It was over-regulated and full of tourists. It was not the nature-based expedition I was hoping for. Free diving and snorkelling there were great. It was nice to see giant turtles, but apart from that, there is not much to do there. I visited a few islands, but they did not have wildlife and were also over-regulated. Overall, I was disappointed.

I spent 10 days on a small boat (16 passengers), exploring the outer islands. I 100% recommend this if it is possible. Every day we would visit a different island, all of them full of animals, some only found on that island. For the first week we hardly ever saw a boat on the horizon, and then we moved to inhabited islands, which were less interesting for me. This is a trip of a lifetime, so my only advice is: truly go for it.
