Bucharest is mostly safe for women, except the verbal harassment and cat calling can be annoying. Please use ubers instead of the yellow taxis, as those latter ones will try to trick foreigners into spending much more than they have to - sometimes even 10x more. Food is great, diverse and cheap. Everything is open until very late. Public transportation is subpar but there are plenty of ubers.

The hostel i stayed at next to the train station really sucked, it was dirty and smelly with bugs, the dust hadnt been cleaned in forever and the area sucked, it was filled with creeps. The train station isnt the cleanest either. However Calea Victoriei was amazing, beautiful and really safe, filled with nice restaurants with good food and boutiques. it was a very touristy but pretty area. The national art museum is really awesome and cheap too. it has paintings from 1700-2000 featuring french, italian, romanian, spanish artists. It is huge. I also visited the Historic museum which has a replica of The Colosseum and toys and journals from the communist era which was very entertaining to see.
Posted: November 2, 2023In my opinion, Bucharest is very safe, and also very cheap. I felt safe, even when I was walking alone at about 1 in the morning. Tickets to museums and Uber were very cheap. Not everyone there can speak English, but they do their best to help you even with the language barrier. The hospitality of the Romanians is the best in Europe when it comes to the places I have visited.
Posted: October 8, 2023Things to do: - University Square - Romanian Athenaeum - Macca-Villacrosse Passage - Stavropoleos Monastery - Triumphal Arch Safety: I felt as safe as in any other large European city. Recommendations: Bucharest is a city that must be seen. This is something you probably have never experienced before. The city is dirty and beautiful at the same time.
Posted: August 7, 2022To Do: - Parliament Palace - Romanian Atheneum - Dimitrie Gusti National Village Museum - Triumphal Arch - King Michael I Park - Cișmigiu Gardens Safety: I felt pretty safe, but it's a city with a population of 2 million, so you should be careful. Accommodation: I stayed at the T5 Social Hostel. Great hostel, wonderful people and I really enjoyed the atmosphere! Recommendations: Try to avoid taxis. They might try to cheat you. I recommend Uber, it's cheap and safe.

Bucharest city centre and most of its neighbourhoods are safe during any time of say or night. There are a few areas that I would advise anyone to keep away from but using your intuition and common sense and staying aware at all times is advisable.
Posted: April 11, 2024The issue with walking in Bucharest alone is the catcalling. It doesn't happen in the city centre, though. Romanians are conservative, so you might turn some heads if you wear revealing outfits. But you should not be deterred to come visit.
Posted: March 28, 2024Bucharest is generally a safe city, but I find Gara de Nord to be very dubious, especially at night. Usually at night i prefer to go there by uber or electric scooter, and when i return i order uber as quick as possible, because there are a lot of beggars and homeless people asking for stuff. I usually put on my toughest face in order to be left alone - But thats only at night. Otherwise most neighborhoods are safe. In the city center I have noticed that almost over night a lot of homeless people have appeared, sleeping in the entrances of abandoned buildings, its a sad sight to see. Its always good to stay vigilent as you never know how they could react if you refuse to give them money or a cigarette if they ask.

I was alone in Bucharest last year and I really enjoyed it there. I walked around a lot on my own, there is a lot to see and do. Plenty of great food and drinks. There is a huge, beautiful cemetery (Cimitirul Bellu) where I walked around for hours, and also Cismigiu park is really beautiful. I went on a one-day trip to Transylvania, which was a bit tacky, but overall it was a great day.
Posted: November 27, 2022We loved Bucharest and Brasov. We booked a one-day tour with Get Your Guide, who took us to Brasov from Bucharest. Brasov is so charming. The Brasov sign (similar to the Hollywood sign) on the hill is also beautiful. In Bucharest, the Old Town was truly great, especially in the evenings. During the day it was more calm with all the charming cafes, my favorite was the Van Gogh cafe. I recommend stopping at Carturesti Carusel (carousel bookstore), at the very top there is a charming cafe with a view over the bookstore below.

I like learning about all kind of cultures, cities and their architecture, art and history, especially because I am usually curious and I believe there’s always something interesting to discover. I enjoy meeting new people and hearing about their experiences. I always appreciate a good energy and reliability to a person. Looking forward to meet new people.
