Safety index

Safety at night:Safe

Bratislava is generally a safe and friendly city with low crime rates. At nighttime, like most cities, some areas might be a little bit less safe but rest assured, the city center where usually tourists roam is well-lit, populated and patrolled. Always maintain basic precautions - avoid secluded areas, be mindful of your belongings and avoid excessive alcohol consumption. Public transportation is reliable and taxis are trustworthy, so if you ever feel uncomfortable, employ their services. However, remember to use your intuition and avoid anything that makes you feel uneasy. The locals are helpful, so don't hesitate to ask for assistance if required.

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Bratislava is generally safe and efficient, with an extensive network of trams, buses, and trolleybuses. The vehicles are quite reliable, regularly maintained, and mostly new models. At night, the frequency of service reduces, but night buses are available. Just like any other big city, keep an eye on your belongings, particularly in crowded situations. It's still advisable to check the timetables, routes and stop locations in advance to avoid any inconvenience.

Street harassment:Very low

In Bratislava, street harassment is quite minimal. Female travelers who have visited the city widely report feeling safe and comfortable. Instances of street harassment are rare to non-existent. The city is generally safe to navigate, even after dark. Of course, it's always wise to keep a vigilant eye and practice basic safety precautions, as you would anywhere else.

Petty crimes:Low

Bratislava generally boasts relatively low levels of petty crime such as pickpocketing, purse-snatching, or minor frauds. However, it pays to be cautious in high tourist areas or crowded public transportation, as these are where such instances are more likely to occur. It's important to practice basic safety measures such as keeping your belongings secure and not exposing valuables in public. Overall, the city is relatively safe for solo travelers, but awareness and appropriate precautions can further ensure a worry-free journey.

Tap water:Very safe

Tap water in Bratislava is considered generally safe to drink. In fact, the tap water is regularly checked and possesses high standards maintained by regulatory authorities. It is pure and rich in essential minerals, hence promoting health aside from quenching thirst.

Solo travel experience

It’s really safe for solo traveler to travel in their capital city, there’s not much things to do in Bratislava, I recommend to take a bus 20mins to a small town , there is a meditation circle on the hill of the town which is really amazing!

Bratislava was nice and I felt safe. I stayed for one night and felt that was enough. I recommend a trip to Devín Castle.

Solo travel experience

Bratislava is not too big, not too crowded, has a nice old town, a castle, and several very good museums, which are not big enough to get bored there. Amazing views of the Danube. There are many inexpensive restaurants, tasty food, and good beer and wine. I felt very safe there. I visited Devín Castle on a hill, located at the confluence of the Morava and Danube, a picturesque place.

Solo travel experience

I spent 2 days in Bratislava and that was enough for me. I visited Devín Castle in the first half of the day, and then I went to the center - Hrad, the Old Town, and covered all the major landmarks. The next day I went to see St. Elizabeth's Church, it was built from blue stone and looked amazing. It is located a bit off the beaten path, so I went there another day (after the main landmarks). I also combined this with a visit to Rusovce Castle, which offers beautiful views and has a large park.

Solo travel experience

I was in Bratislava last month. Charming city, small, but there's plenty to do. However, it's not the best place for nightlife.
