Safety index

Safety at night:Safe

Amalfi Coast is fairly safe even at night. Locals are generally friendly and ready to assist if needed. However, as in any tourist area, it's important to stay cautious as petty crime like pickpocketing can occasionally occur. Moreover, some areas can become quite secluded at night, which might not appear as comfortable to walk alone. Standard precautions such as sticking to well-lit areas, being mindful of your belongings and avoiding late-night walks on quiet streets are advised.

Public transportation:Safe

The public transportation system along the Amalfi Coast is generally safe, with buses and ferries being the common modes of travel. They are well maintained and follow a regular schedule. Local people use them on a daily basis, and incidents specifically targeting tourists are unusual. However, during peak travel time, buses can be tightly packed which may lead to discomfort. There might also be language barriers but usually, locals are helpful. Always be alert of your surroundings and keep an eye on your belongings, as you would do in any other place.

Street harassment:Low

Generally, the Amalfi Coast region is known for its friendly locals and relaxing environment. While it's always necessary to remain vigilant, most travelers report minimal experiences of uncomfortable attention or harassment in public spaces. The people are warm and respectful, making it a fairly comfortable area for solo female travel. Street harassment is not a common complaint.

Petty crimes:Low

While instances of petty crime such as pickpocketing or bag snatching are not completely unheard of in Amalfi Coast, they are relatively rare. The area is well-touristed and generally considered safe. However, caution should still be exercised, particularly in crowded tourist spots and while using public transportation.

Tap water:Safe

The tap water along the Amalfi Coast is generally considered safe to drink. The water is municipally treated and usually comes from natural springs. However, quality can vary between towns and even within different parts of the same town due to aging infrastructure. Therefore, some may find the taste to be a bit off.

The Amalfi Coast is a very beautiful place to visit; it has gorgeous locations, and the local food is delicious. Traveling between Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi, and Capri is very easy. It's worth staying at least 5 days. I arrived from Naples by bus, and it was a good option; everything is very safe.

We spent a week on the Amalfi Coast and visited Sorrento, Naples, Capri, and took a boat trip along the coast to reach the small towns. It was beautiful, but I wouldn't go there again. There are so many people. Driving along the coast was, let's say, a challenge. The roads themselves weren't that bad, but the traffic was a nightmare. It was not possible to stop in any of the towns along the way because there simply were no available parking spaces. If you're going to this area in summer (we were there at the end of August), do yourself a favor and take a boat trip to see the towns.

Solo travel experience

I stayed in 2 hotels in Sorrento, and from there I took a train trip to Pompeii, a boat trip to Capri and a one-day (bus) trip to Positano. Sorrento is a beautiful small town with plenty of restaurants and shops.
