Which is better: Salzburg or Bratislava? Is it worth it to go on a guided tour?

I'll be traveling to Vienna soon and I have an extra day. I am trying to decide if I should go on a day trip to Salzburg or Bratislava. Any recommendations on which is better? Also, is it worth it to go on a guided tour or just explore on my own?
