Experiences from Qatar

Family travel experience

My visit to Qatar during the World Cup was truly an amazing experience. It is the safest country I have ever been to, and everyone was so kind. I got around using the metro and trams. They are accessible and very easy to understand. If you're unsure about something, ALWAYS ASK. It will save you a lot of time. There are Ubers, but most of them know little or no English, so prepare for a language barrier. However, you really don't need an Uber unless you're in a hurry. Download Talabat, a food delivery app in Qatar, it's a real lifesaver on nights when you're tired and don't feel like going out. And for those who are staying in apartments and Airbnbs, you can order grocery delivery. I stayed in a rented apartment with my family and a few times we cooked breakfast, but mostly we ate out while doing various activities or ordered food from Talabat. Places you must visit are Souq Waqif with all the Qatari street food stalls, Qatari shopping centers, the Museum of Islamic Art, and the Qatari Cultural Village.

Solo travel experience

Qatar is one of the safest countries to live in. It's quite a conservative country, so please wear appropriate clothing: no strap tops, short shorts and the like. Of course, always stay alert and watch your surroundings, especially at night! Here are my top things to do and places to visit in Qatar: 1. Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) and MIA Park. MIA was designed by I.M. Pei, who also designed the Louvre in Paris. On the hill in MIA Park, there is the best viewpoint for the panorama of Doha! 2. After visiting the MIA, you can walk along the promenade. For 10-15 QAR, you can sail on a traditional boat, called a dhow, for 10 minutes. 3. Visit Souq Waif to buy souvenirs, a hookah, Turkish coffee, etc. 4. Villaggio Mall. Similar to the Venetian Mall in Macau.
